India U23 will take on Thailand U23 in a friendly affair.

Naushad Moosa is desperate to add another positive result in his tally as the India U23 football team lock horns with Thailand U23 on Saturday. With several U23 players making a switch to the senior national team, Moosa has included ten new names in the squad.

The game against Thailand will be an opportunity for the new entrants to make a name for themselves at the U23 level and make a case for the senior national team selection. Naushad Moosa is building a core of talented youngsters who are prepared to turn up for the senior team whenever called up.

In this article, we will look at three Indian players to watch out for in the India U23 vs Thailand U23 clash.

Singamayum Shami

Singamayum Shami has taken a step up after excelling for India at the U19 level. The lad from Manipur led the India U19 to glory in the SAFF U19 Championship earlier this year. He put in a great shift in the decider, scoring a goal in what was a thrilling contest.

The creativity of the 18-year-old attacking midfielder keeps the opposition on edge. A blink and he can thread a pass that will script the collapse of the opposition’s defensive resilience. In the last Indian Super League season, he announced himself by becoming the youngest goal-scorer in the league’s history. Shami will look to replicate a similar magic when he makes his debut for the India U23 football team.

One of the highly touted young defenders in the country, Ronney Wilson, has received his maiden call-up for the India U23 team. The 22-year-old was a mainstay of Shillong Lajong’s defence until recently, before he made a move to FC Goa.

He was one of the crucial figures in the impressive campaign of Shillong Lajong in the Durand Cup. The youngster from Meghalaya took no time in making his way to the biggest stage as he made his debut in the AFC Champions League in October. The lanky centre-back will want to be the next in line after Bikash Yumnam and Pramveer made it to the senior national team.

Korou Singh
