Three ways Robson Robinho can improve Mohun Bagan's attacking threat

Robson Robinho has been signed as the replacement of Greg Stewart in Mohun Bagan.

The signing of Robson Robinho marks the completion of what is going to be a really threatening attacking line for Mohun Bagan in the 2025-26 season. Ahead of the start of their AFC Champions League Two group stages, the Mariners have added some Brazilian samba magic to their squad to enhance their chances of taking the fight to their opponents.

Robson Robinho arrives at the club with a wealth of experience behind him, having even played on the Brazilian Serie A in the past. Robson had 113 goal contributions (64 goals, 49 assists) in 97 games for Bangladeshi side Bashundhara Kings and has played for the likes for FLuminense and Figueirense in Brazil.

Robson Robinho will bring something new and refreshing to the Mariners’ attacking set-up with his unpredictable playing style and ability to make things count in the final third. Fortunately for Jose Molina, he now has the chance to unlock the utmost quality of his side’s attacking prowess with an exciting talent like Robinho. Let’s look at the three ways Robinho’s arrival can improve Mohun Bagan’s attacking threat.

3. Versatility factor

Mohun Bagan have not really had the kind of the ideal versatility among their forwards that Molina would want. Most of his forwards are only comfortable in their natural roles, failing to excel in different positions. However, that thing can be changed with the arrival of Robinho.

The 30-year-old is naturally a left-winger, but he has also played in a host of different positions across his career. The Brazilian can operate in an attacking midfielder or no.10 role, and is also capable of drifting into the right-wing position if necessary.

Robson Robinho is capable of being a menacing presence just about anything in the final third, having the awareness and trickery to drift his way past defenders and into the danger zones.

He is slick with his finishing ability, being able to test goalkeepers from a range of positions and is blessed with impressive creativity that allows him to create chances from multiple positions. This burst of versatility in someone like Robinho would help Molina ensure that Mohun Bagan are able to maintain their utmost attacking lethality even if Robson has to fill in for another attacker.

2. Quality alternative in left-wing role

For Jose Molina, it’s been a bit of a burden in finding a quality alternative option to Liston Colaco on the left-wing. Manvir Singh is strictly a right-winger, while the likes of Dimi Petratos and Sahal Abdul Samad have failed to adapt to that position.

Liston has often been overplayed and received little rest, but that can now change with the arrival of Robson Robinho. That is because the Brazilian winger is naturally a left-winger and can definitely make a similar impact, if not an even bigger one, than Liston does in that left-wing role for the Mariners.

Robson Robinho thrives in the left-wing role because it allows him to carry the ball into the danger areas, dribble past defenders at ease and cut into the central areas perfectly. Robinho has 45 goals and 38 assists in 81 career appearances as a left-winger for his clubs, showing how devastating he can be in that position.

Molina can now afford to drop Liston and up the antee on that left-wing position for Mohun Bagan with a harassing winger like Robson, whose tricky playing style can torment defenders in Asia and India alike.

1. Reliable goal outlet

Robson Robinho has not just been roped in to add more quality in the wide areas for Mohun Bagan, but also sharp up their goal-scoring potential. The Mariners knew that they need more quality foreign talents in the key attacking areas to compete strongly in the ACL Two and in some tough ISL matches as well.

That is why Robson Robinho was brought aboard because he has that eye for goal and the talent to make things happen in the key areas. Irrespective of whether he’s playing in that left-wing role or perhaps behind the striker, Robinho will be focused on being a thorn for opposition defenders with his clever movement in their half.

Robson Robinho is a determined individual who loves getting the ball in the empty areas and running at defenders. Robinho can create from a variety of positions and is a set piece threat, meaning he will ensure that the creativity threat is amped up within the Mohun Bagan team.

Molina can now set up an even scarier attacking line going forward knowing how dangerous Robson can be in the key final third areas and his ability to get among the goals at regular intervals.
