Weekly Transfer Roundup: Ygor to Mumbai City, Awal joins Sreenidhi Deccan

There were a few notable signings in the past week as the new league season approaches.
Indian football is gearing up for the new league season which is set to begin later in 2021. The Indian Super League and the I-League will be back for their latest editions, amidst strict bio-bubble conditions. The respective teams have been busy in the past few months, preparing their squads and signing new players. This past week also saw announcements of new arrivals by clubs.
This period is very vital because it sets the tone for the rest of the season. The head coaches are busy finding the right combinations and squad balance. The pre-season helps identify problem areas in the squad and they can sign players if required to amend the weaknesses. Moreover, the fans are also excited because of the new faces and the prospect of success in the new campaign.

After a frantic summer transfer window, there are still new signings to report within Indian football. Here is the transfer activity from the past seven days:
Indian Super League
SC East Bengal
SC East Bengal have been busy in the past few weeks after their involvement in the upcoming ISL season was confirmed. Their latest signing is Croatian forward Antonio Perošević. The striker has signed a one-year deal with the club and will make his debut in Indian football next season. Perosevic joins from Hungarian top division club Újpest FC and is the final foreign signing at SCEB.
Mumbai City
Brazilian forward Ygor Catatau has joined Mumbai City on a loan deal. The 26-year-old comes from Madureira Esporte Clube, a club in Brazil. This will be his first experience outside his home country. “Joining Mumbai City and coming to the ISL is a new challenge for me in my career and I’m extremely excited about it.
"For all of us at the club, we want to deliver in what I’m aware is going to be an important season for us. I’m ready to give my very best to our fans and I hope we can enjoy great moments together,” Ygor Catatau said post the confirmation of his arrival in India.

I-League, I-League Qualifiers
Sreenidhi Deccan
The new I-League entrants have confirmed the signing of Mohamed Awal ahead of the 2021/22 season. Sreenidhi Deccan have roped in the former Gokulam Kerala captain, who was crucial in his former club’s I-League triumph.
Awal is the second overseas signing at the Vizag-based outfit after David Castaneda of Columbia joined the club recently. The 33-year-old centre-back is a good addition to the squad and will bring a lot of experience to the team.
Madan Maharaj FC
Madan Maharaj have secured the signing of William Twala. The South African forward last featured for Pretoria Callies back in his home country. The Bhopal-based club have brought in good options before the I-League Qualifiers. Nigerian defender Loveday Enyinnaya is their other overseas player and the duo will hope to bring success in the games to come.
