Why were Super League Kerala 2025 playoffs cancelled?

The new dates for the Super League Kerala 2025 semi-finals are yet to be announced.
After many intense matches and exciting turnarounds, the Super League Kerala 2025 league stage ended on 4 December. Fans are waiting for the playoffs, but shockingly, the league has decided to postpone the knockout stage.
The semi-final 1 between Thrissur Magic FC and Malappuram FC, and semi-final 2 between Calicut FC and Kannur Warriors FC, which were scheduled for December 7 and 10, have been postponed.
This decision has been taken after receiving instructions from higher authorities regarding the local body election process.
“As a responsible organisation, SLK is committed to fully complying with the directions received from the District Administration. In view of the election-related protocols and the operational restrictions communicated to us, conducting the matches on the scheduled dates is not feasible. Accordingly, both semi-finals stand postponed.” – Official Statement from Super League Kerala.
Yesterday, the District Commissioner sent an urgent request to the Thrissur District Collector, citing the concerns over the non-availability of manpower.
Citing manpower constraints, the Commissioner proposed to the Collector to postpone the semi-final match to avoid any security issues. As a result, a letter was issued to the stakeholders of the league and the respective clubs.
At this high-stakes match between Thrissur and Malappuram, neighbouring districts with strong and enthusiastic fanbases, a significant turnaround is expected at Thrissur town, especially from Malappuram.
With the election campaign reaching its peak, several processions and conferences are being organised at different places in the district. A substantial proportion of our manpower has been deployed for Sabarimala duty and to other districts, where the first phase of elections are being held.
In view of the circumstances, you are hereby requested to take appropriate steps to reschedule the match to a suitable date after the elections and the vote counting, from a security and administrative standpoint. You are also requested to make an immediate public announcement, advising the fans not to gather at the venue or travel for the match. Your immediate attention and action in this matter are highly solicited,” the letter read.
Following this order, the Super League Kerala released an official statement about the postponement of the Semi-Final matches. The matches will take place after the vote counting process, which will be scheduled on the 13th of this month.
The revised dates for the Super League Kerala semi-finals will be shared as soon as possible after further discussions with the relevant authorities.
