The Spaniard represented the Red & Golds in ISL 2021-22.

Former East Bengal attacking midfielder Fran Sota has returned to his former club SD Logrones. Sota, 31, joined the Red and Golds in January last year as a replacement for Amir Dervisevic and represented them in five matches in ISL 2021-22. He lasted for 90 minutes in just three of them and was also left out from their last match against Bengaluru FC. He has now returned to Logrones, where the 31-year-old last played in 2014.

In his two seasons at Logrones between 2012 and 2014, Sota made 49 appearances for the Red and White, scoring once in the process. Apart from representing them in the Spanish second and third division, Sota also played two Copa del Rey matches for Logrones.

Having started out at Osasuna, Fran Sota played for several lower division teams in Spain. He turned out for Pena Sports FC, CD Varea, SD Leioa, and CD Tropezon among others.

The club announced his arrival back at the club after eight years. "The midfielder returns to what was his home during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 season to play as a Red and White," said the club in its statement.

"Fran Sota will once again wear the jersey of the Sociedad Deportiva Logrones. The 31-year-old player returns to Las Gaunas after a more than a long career in the second division after passing through teams such as Tropezon, Leioa, Racing de Ferrol or Calahorra and having played last season in the Indian Super League, the highest category of the Asian country, counting always with a lot of protagonism in their teams."

"SD Logrones thanks the player for his willingness to make his return to the club possible and wishes him the best of luck both personally and professionally."

East Bengal's preparations for ISL 2022-23

East Bengal continue their negotiations with new investor Emami over the signing of the final agreement draft. Meanwhile, the club had already tied a few players to pre-contracts and are also in talks with some more. The club will be able to sign players once their ban is lifted as well as they have funds to reach agreements.

So far the Red and Golds have signed pre-contracts with Mohamad Rakip (from Mumbai City), Ivan Gonzalez (from FC Goa) and Mobashir Rahman (from Jamshedpur) for the upcoming season. They have also tied a few local players like Aditya Patra, Mahitosh Roy, Suryash Jaiswal, Dip Saha and Nabi Hussain Khan.
