India move up three spots to 56th in latest women's FIFA rankings

A recent run of strong performances has prompted the rise.

The last couple of weeks has been fantastic for Indian Football fans. The Indian men's team clinched their spot at next year's AFC Asia Cup recently, and now exciting news comes from the other end of the Indian football. Indian women's team have climbed three spots in the latest FIFA Rankings.

According to the latest FIFA Rankings, the Blue Tigresses are ranked 56th, three places up from the previous 59th position. The Indian women's team has been doing really well in recent times and are far ahead of the men's team on the international stage (rankings wise). Their rise in the rankings follows notable performances against Egypt and Jordan in recent friendlies.[KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS]

When they were last in action, the Indian women's team won both their friendlies against Jordan and Egypt in April. They won both matches by a solitary goal each and showed great quality and compactness throughout the game. 

Historically, the highest India have reached in the FIFA rankings is 49 in December 2013. With recent developments in Indian football, this record could be broken soon. Indian women's football has experienced dramatic growth in recent years

It has been an exciting ride for Indian women's Football fans in the last few years. As they have reached milestone after milestone. Last year, Gokulam Kerala FC became the first Indian club to play in the AFC Women's Club Championship. Also, the likes of Aditi Chauhan and Bala Devi, who played for foreign clubs are raising the bar in women's football.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Indian women's under-17 team will play against both the Netherlands and Italy.
