The Indian skipper had played his 100th game for India earlier.

The Indian football team notched up yet another win in the Intercontinental Cup this time over Kenya at the Mumbai Football Arena on Tuesday, which still remains a happy hunting ground for the Blue Tigers.

The day was very memorable and emotional for Indian football fans as their talisman Sunil Chhetri marked his 100th appearance in national colours. Chhetri has been a revelation throughout his career and an inspiration to youngsters around the country. On his auspicious day, the leader himself stepped up and scored a brace to guide team India to another win.

Then the man himself took to Twitter to thank the thousands of fans who had turned out to cheer for the national team in the metropolis.

The atmosphere was electrifying and it was coupled with celebrations of a great 3-0 win over Kenya on the skipper's 100th milestone. The response to his latest message was also overwhelming as celebrities and fans flooded social media to wish the Indian skipper on his 100th appearance.

In response to Chhetri's tweet, the Indian fans and celebrities alike also congratulated and thanked him for India's performance and his brace against Kenya. 

Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was among the first ones to congratulate Sunil Chhetri on Twitter.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Indian Cricket team captain Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag also took to Twitter, responding to India's win over Kenya.

India's Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu was among the politicians from the country who tweeted and congratulated the Indian side as well as Chhetri for the Blue Tigers' game against Kenya.

Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore also did not back out from congratulating the 33-year-old for his brace against India.

Indian batsman Suresh Raina also showered kind words for our national team captain after the game.

Football fans all over the country, Blue Pilgrims, West Block Blues, Majappada, and so on all took the opportunity to pour their hearts out on Twitter, showing respect to the great man on his 100th appearance.

It definitely seems like Chhetri's heartfelt message to the fans just a few days ago did not go in vain as the current scenario seems to be painting a new and bright picture for Indian football in the days to come. This day will definitely be one for the history books!
