The Spanish gaffer started the press meet by saying, “We are looking forward to a good match and we’ll try to get the victory against Chennaiyin tomorrow. We expect the game to be tough because we don’t know how they will play. They’ve got a new head coach so we’ll try to manage to dominate and hopefully get a victory.”
On Finishing Problems
Antonio Iriondo was then asked how he plans to improve the finishing problems of his team. He replied, “We are going to keep trusting the players we have and the work we’ve done during the week. I’m very happy that we are playing well without two of our best players and yet winning the game. We want to keep the momentum going and as far as the goals are concerned we will try working on it and get better with the time.”
On Sergio Castel’s Fitness
Iriondo confirmed that their star striker Castel will miss the fixture against Chennaiyin due to an injury he sustained in the last game. He, however, chose not to name his replacement and said, “We have so many players who can play in that position and I’ve not decided who will play but all the players are working very hard.”
On Refereeing Standards
This season of the ISL has been mired with controversial decisions in almost every game and Antonio Iriondo expects the standards to get better. He elaborated his case by saying, “All the clubs and the tournament organizers should help the referees so that the standard of refereeing in the league will improve.”
On Dressing Room Atmosphere
Jamshedpur played a 1-1 draw against NorthEast United in their previous game, where they conceded in the dying moments of the game. Further, Robin Gurung went on to speak about the atmosphere in the dressing room.
“Last game we had a chance of going top of the table. Unfortunately we couldn’t but nevertheless we’re still in the top 3 and are motivated to do well.”
