The Men of Steel are now without a win in their last three games in the league.
After breaking their winless run of six games against Bengaluru FC, Mumbai City FC will now travel to Jamshedpur FC for their ninth league game of the season. Antonio Iriondo’s side is currently placed at the fourth spot in the table with three victories from eight matches to their name. On the other hand, Mumbai City secured their second victory of the season in their last match against the Bengaluru FC. Jorge Costa’s men cannot afford to lose any more points for a considerable number of matches now and hence a victory in this game is of utmost necessity if they want to harbor any hopes of qualifying for the playoffs. Jamshedpur FC
Jamshedpur FC had a bright start to the season with three victories from their first five matches. However, they have hit a dry run now with successive draws in their previous few games. At their home ground, Jamshedpur FC would hope to notch three points from Mumbai City to solidify their position in the top four as Costa’s side could potentially come on level with the Men of Steel if they secure a victory in this match.Mumbai City FC
Mumbai City finally breathed some fresh air in the last game as they managed to notch three points from Bengaluru FC at the Kanteerava Stadium. It was the Islanders' first victory after a run of six winless games and Mumbai City would be hoping to continue their momentum against Jamshedpur FC as well. Mumbai City can take some heart from the fact that both of their wins this season have come in away matches.Team News
Jamshedpur FC
Sergio Castel was in an impressive run of goal-scoring form but an injury against NorthEast United early this month meant that he had to be taken off the field due to the knock. It was a rash challenge from Reagan Singh and Castel hasn’t seemed to recover from that until now. The Spaniard is doubtful to start this game.Mumbai City FC
Mumbai City FC have seemed to recover from all their injury blows from early on in the season as now even Mato Grgic is back to starting matches at the heart of the backline. Sourav Das remains to be an absentee but he was in the bench against Bengaluru FC and could return to first-team action soon now.Head To Head
Mumbai City FC and Jamshedpur FC have faced each other in four matches so far with the latter emerging victorious in three games whilst one match ended in a draw.Men To Watch
Farukh Choudhary (Jamshedpur FC)
In Castel’s absence, Faruk Choudhary’s role emerges in the forward line as he would be primary source to create goal-scoring chances. He would play from the right flank, complementing Piti who would start through the centre. Choudhary has scored a goal and registered three assists in eight matches so far and could possibly be a cause of nuisance for Subhashish Bose who would play at the left flank for Mumbai City FC.Mato Grgic (Mumbai City FC)
Mumbai’s backline was leaking goals aplenty in Grgic’s absence. However, the centre-back’s return has given a more stable look to the backline. He has a calm head, leads the defenders well and enables Sarthak Golui to play at the right-back role. Golui is visibly more comfortable slotting in that position and definitely a more prominent option to have than Souvik Chakraborty who delivered mixed performances during his time in the slot for the initial part of the season.Probable Lineups
Jamshedpur FC Subrata (GK); Tiri, Memo, Gurung, Gahlot; Monroy, Singh, Vanmalsawma; Choudhary, Passi, Pitti Mumbai City FC: Amrinder (GK); Golui, Chaudhari, Grgic, Subhasish; Rowllin, Raynier, Machado; Larbi, Sougou, ChermitiDid You Know?
- Mumbai City FC have never won an ISL game against Jamshepur FC.
- Subrata Pal, Jamshedpur’s famed custodian who has been lauded for his performances this season, previously played for Mumbai City FC in the 2014/15 season and also made 26 appearances for the Islanders.
- Mumbai City FC need to win this match because failing to do so could give a brilliant opportunity to NorthEast United FC and Odisha FC to leapfrog Jorge Costa’s team in the points table in their upcoming matches. They currently have 10 and nine points in the league table.
