The Jamshedpur FC head coach also stressed that he is not thinking much about the back four.
Odisha FC face Jamshedpur FC in their first home game at the Kalinga Stadium in the ISL 2019-20 season on Friday. Ahead of the face-off, Jamshedpur FC head coach Antonio Iriondo, addressed the media in the pre-match press conference on Thursday.
Antonio Iriondo was quizzed about whether his team were prepared for Friday night’s match and whether they could bag three points to keep their momentum alive. “We are working hard this week. We know that we have had injuries to very important players. But, we are working with everyone in the squad and we are not here just to play. We have come here to win (sic.),” he answered.
“In our style, we don’t care about the defence or attack. We make a balance in defence and in attack also. So, I know that we are not the best but it is not a big deal for us,” Antonio Iriondo added.
“We don’t have players in offensive place to score too much now. But, we have other players who can replace those players. The essence is to get the ball and have the ball for the most time possible. So, we will get that way, we will keep the ball and we will try to score more goals than the other games, but we don’t care too much in defence,” Antonio Iriondo quipped.
Sumeet Passi, who was accompanying the Spaniard also answered a couple of questions. He reflected on the offensive workload being put due to a rather disorganized defensive unit. “As you know, two of our main players are injured. Now, we cannot think of that, but Tiri scored in the last match,” he stated.
“We hope that he scores a goal in the next match too. We are content if we win the next few matches by 2-1 or 3-1. It is a good thing that the coach is focusing more on the attacking part of the game. So, even if we win by 1-0, it is good, as a win is a win. Our target is to score more goals, so that there is less pressure on the defence.”
Sergio Castel has been on the sidelines for close to an entire month now, whereas Piti went down following a nasty challenge from Subhasish Bose in Jamshedpur FC’s last match. These two players are almost certainties to miss the upcoming game.
Both sides have met five times in the Indian Super League, with the Men of Steel bagging four wins and the other fixture ending in a draw. So, this will be an opportunity for Odisha to open their account against Jamshedpur.
