The tactician spoke after a disappointing result that ended any hopes of a playoffs finish.
Bengaluru FC’s dreadful Indian Super League 2020/21 season was dealt the final blow, as they went down 2-1 to the high-flying FC Goa. Two early goals from Igor Angulo and Redeem Tlang were enough to secure three points for the Gaurs. Naushad Moosa spoke after the match and was visibly distraught with the result.
He touched upon important talking points from the game during the post match media interaction.
Fairness of result
The tactician expressed his opinion on the 2-1 defeat and if the result was a fair one. He quoted, “If you give away such easy goals, it becomes difficult. After that, we had some opportunities...not really happy with the result, we could have done better.”
Height of expectations
Given the impressive win against Mumbai City prior to the defeat to FC Goa, the coach spoke about whether the expectations were too high. He said, “Frankly speaking, we were not really under pressure, we just wanted to come and play because the chances were really dim (to qualify for the playoffs). We always wanted to have a good game and get those three points.”
Resilient Gaurs
Speaking in the context of FC Goa’s setup and resilience in defence, Naushad Moosa gave his point of view. He stated, “The way FC Goa played, they were more compact. They were dropping back, they didn’t give us enough room. Tactically, they outplayed us.”
Praise for Suresh Wangjam and Dimas Delgado
Suresh Singh Wangjam scored Bengaluru’s only goal on the night. Speaking on the performance of the midfielder Moosa said, “Hope that gives him confidence that he can go up and score.
“It’s always nice. His fitness was a concern, but the way he gives his best, its always good for the team.” the Indian said in reference to Dimas Delgado.
The last game
With one game left to play and nothing to fight for, Moosa suggested that it could be a chance to include the young players. He opined, “I could see that the players’ motivation levels were really low towards the end of the game. They tried a lot, but let’s see, it’s good if we can use the youngsters.”
