The Blues' head coach also opined that the Men of Steel have been affected by refereeing decisions.
As Bengaluru FC prepares to face Jamshedpur FC in their next Indian Super League game, head coach Carles Cuadrat sounded bullish about his side’s performance in the defeat against ATK Mohun Bagan. The result gave the Blues their first defeat of the season and the team had a week’s break leading into the tie against Jamshedpur FC on Monday.
“It was a tough game and always we knew that ATK Mohun Bagan is a game of tight margins like before. It was a little glimpse of quality of David Williams as it was a difficult goal and he was good enough to create that situation. Little margins like that do lead to wins,” he began.

The tactician went on to add that games involving Antonio Habas, Sergio Lobera and himself were usually tight possibly because of the longevity of their stints in the ISL.
“It is evident that the teams that have been managed by Habas, Lobera and me have been getting results. The maximum number of losses that each of these teams have lost in a season has only been four. What I mean is that, we are experienced coaches now in the league and we know the tactics that work. This is why we are achieving the playoffs every season. It’s also why games between us are always close,” Carles Cuadrat added.

The Blues face a Jamshedpur FC side that were narrowly edged out by FC Goa a few days before Christmas, courtesy of a late Igor Angulo strike. Carles Cuadrat made no bones of the task at hand and sympathized with Owen Coyle’s team for sometimes not getting the rub of the green.
“They are doing a good job and deserve to have more points in the table. They have been unlucky with some refereeing decisions and some last minute goals. It will be difficult to control them especially their foreign players. They are also getting some new Indian talent which is good. It will be a difficult game for both teams,” he remarked.

Asked if his side have a plan to stop Jamshedpur forward Nerijus Valskis, the Bengaluru FC boss did not shy away from talking up his team’s defensive credentials.
“We had the best defence last season with most clean sheets and least goals conceded and have changed some personnel in our defence and it will take time for them to settle."

"We also have a new left back in Ashique, we have been working together for a long time and we have been able to stop top strikers, we take risks sometimes with a high line and teams do stray offside because of this."
"(Bengaluru FC) We will try to not let him (Valskis) score against us. He couldn’t last season with Chennaiyin and we will try the same this year,” Carles Cuadrat quipped.
