The Chennaiyin FC boss felt his side needed to do more on the pitch.

Chennaiyin FC fell to an unfortunate defeat in the Indian Super League on Monday as Hyderabad FC scored four past them. A brace from Holicharan Nazary and goals from Joel Chianese and Joao Victor ensured three points for the Nizams. The Marina Machans, on the other hand, scored a consolation goal through Anirudh Thapa. Following the loss, Chennaiyin head coach Csaba Laszlo spoke at the post-match press conference.

Lack of intent

Chennaiyin FC found themselves on the back foot right from the beginning. Hyderabad missed a number of chances to increase the score, despite already having netted four times. Csaba Laszlo was frank in his reaction to his side's third defeat of the campaign.

“I think that this was a very bad performance from my team. Not because we lost 4-1, it is because I didn’t see creativity, I didn’t see chances. We were on the pitch, but we need to do more. Especially, in midfield we lost possession."

Lack of attacking options with Crivellaro missing

With Chennaiyin FC’s captain and talisman Rafael Crivellaro missing the game through injury, Anirudh Thapa found himself playing higher up the pitch. When the Marina Machans went three goals down, Csaba Laszlo had nobody to turn to, in terms of attacking reinforcements from the bench.

“We cannot just go and hide in the shadow of Rafa because he is out and he is definitely an important player for us. But, we have also other players who have to try. I know that every player has completely different qualities, but generally, it is true that our offensive game today was very poor," he opined.

Defensive frailties

Hyderabad FC found wide open spaces behind the Chennaiyin defence right from the beginning of the game. The opening goal looked like a result of miscommunication between Vishal Kaith and Enes Sipovic. Speaking on the backline, Csaba Laszlo accepted that his side had a lot to rectify after the defeat.

“From the beginning, I think, we were not in the game even in the defence. In the first 10 minutes, it could have been 2-0 or 3-0 for the opponents. It looked like we did not have enough attention," he said.

"In the first half, Vishal saved some 200% chances. In the second half, he had some good saves, but unfortunately there was a little bit of a mistake from him for the [first goal]. If I want to take someone and say that he had a good performance, it would be our goalkeeper,” the tactician quipped.

Chhangte missing chances

Lallianzuala Chhangte has had a tough time of things of late. The Chennaiyin FC attacker has missed a number of chances this season, which continued against Hyderabad. Laszlo acknowledged that the youngster had aspects to his game, which required improvement. However, he also asserted that he believed Chhangte had the ability to go far in his career.

“Chhangte is a player who can definitely change the game. I think he is young and he still has time to work on it. Today, he had one chances, maybe if he scored, it is a different game,” he concluded.
