The Marina Machans' tactician talked about several important issues ahead of the team’s next assignment.
Chennaiyin FC are up against NorthEast United in their next Indian Super League 2020/21 game. With the league phase in the business end, the teams are looking to achieve their respective objectives. While their opponents are in the middle of a race for the playoffs, Csaba Laszlo and his Chennaiyin will look to spoil their party. The outfit will focus on ending the season on a high.
During the pre-match media interaction, Laszlo talked about the morale among the players, the preparation ahead of the clash with the Highlanders and more.
Giving youngsters a chance
The tactician was quizzed whether he would consider giving local young players an opportunity given the fact that only two matches are left to play. He responded by saying, “Yes, we have two games left and this is not about playoffs, it is about taking away good results. I think in these two games, we will do everything to win.
“Okay, we haven't given too much opportunity to the young boys, but there will come a time when they play. We are preparing against NorthEast and it will be a very tough game. We’ll see if we get an opportunity or not, but our target is also to win this game,” he further added.
Plan to stop NorthEast United
The tactician presented his thoughts regarding the possible gameplan they will apply in order to contain an in-form team like NEUFC. He explained, “NorthEast United have a good run-in and this season they have made good recruitment, especially foreigners. We are prepared against them, we must go to win this game. Our attention is also not just to play good football, but also successful football. I hope our offensive players will continue (scoring goals) against NorthEast United.”
Anirudh Thapa’s availability
Doubts around Anirudh Thapa’s fitness have been doing the rounds. Giving an update on his possible involvement, Laszlo said, “I don’t know if he will be 100% ready. But, at the moment, it looks good. Yesterday he trained and I hope he can play minimum one half. We have missed him every single game after his injury.”
Morale in dressing room
The Romanian gave an insight into the mood within the camp. He opined, “I think this is most important, what the team showed against Goa. It's not just the playoffs, it's also about being a team. Every team has ups and downs, every season isn’t perfect.
“I think this season we also had a lot of good things, but the results (for us) were not so fantastic, especially in offence. But, generally, the team is together and we want to show in the last two games that we have a good morale. We are also fighting for each other,” the 57-year-old concluded.
