The tactician feels the Marina Machans will be able to bounce back in the absence of their captain.
Chennaiyin FC head coach Csaba Laszlo provided his assessment of his side’s fortunes after the crushing defeat in the last Indian Super League game against Hyderabad FC. The tactician also spoke on the mood in the squad ahead of their game against Odisha FC on Sunday.
Confidence would certainly be low in the Marina Machans’ setup after that defeat and Csaba Laszlo has a tough task ahead of him against a spirited Odisha, looking to build on their big win from Thursday.
GMC Stadium voodoo?
While the GMC Stadium where Chennaiyin will be playing hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for them, with three losses in the three games played there, Laszlo termed the venue’s voodoo as coincidence and rather based it more on their poor performances so far this season.
Reviewing his side’s performance, the coach said, “I don’t think the stadium has anything to do with the results that we have had. We had a good start, but I think we have made a lot of mistakes. In the game against Hyderabad, we were not in the game right from the first minute. So, now we have to change, we have to learn and do the good things that we were doing before.”
The Romanian added, “I don’t want to say that a few players made the mistakes, we were all involved in it. The next game offers us the best opportunity to take ourselves in the right direction.”
Rejuvenated Odisha FC
Chennaiyin face an Odisha FC side buoyed by their big win in the last game. Speaking of the opposition and the game, Laszlo said, “They are coming off a big win in their last game. They have put in a lot of effort, so we have to do the same. In this league, teams are evenly placed and we have to think in the manner of ensuring good performances.
“We have to be better with and without the ball. We have to pass better, the goalscoring is also another issue which we have been working on every single day. It is a matter of confidence, if you don’t have confidence then you can’t score and you can’t win. I am personally confident in my team and the players must believe in themselves,” added Laszlo.
Crivellaro’s absence & alternatives
Chennaiyin skipper Rafael Crivellaro would be missing the game against the Juggernauts as confirmed by head coach Laszlo. He replied “We will be having a consultation today evening with the doctor and then we will issue a statement based on his fitness. But, he won’t be a part of the squad tomorrow, unfortunately. I hope everything would be okay.”
Speaking on the difference made by the absence of his captain, Laszlo expressed a sense of sadness, but also made his desire known on the opportunity it provides for the other players. He replied, “Of course, he is a big miss. In the last game we saw the creativity was a bit missing. I don’t want to talk much about his position, he is not just our captain, but he is one of the most important players.
“We have to look at it a little bit different, tactically. I don’t want to hide behind the injury, so we have to find the best players to play for us. The other players are prepared and we believe that our squad would be capable of bouncing back,” Csaba Laszlo concluded.
