The 20-year-old shotstopper was struggling for game time since moving from Kerala Blasters.

Indian Super League (ISL) outfit SC East Bengal are in advanced talks to sign ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem, Khel Now can confirm. Once the deal is done, the player will join the Red & Gold Brigade in a loan deal for the remainder of the 2020-21 season.

“Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem is in talks with SC East Bengal,” a source close to the developments informed Khel Now. We also understand that the SCEB think-tank is all set to execute a major squad overhaul during the upcoming winter transfer window in January.

Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem rose to fame after his prolific display for the U-17 Indian national team that took part in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in India. After proving himself at the youth level, the 20-year-old Manipuri goalkeeper signed for Indian Arrows, the AIFF development side that plays in the I-League. In 2018, he joined ISL side Kerala Blasters on a three-year deal and soon made his debut for the senior team. Under the then head coach David James, Singh was a regular in the Blasters squad, as he made 13 appearances in the 2018-19 term. He also kept four clean-sheets during that season.

After his promising display for the Yellow Army, ATK signed the then-19-year-old. However, since then, he has made only one appearance in the ISL. In the ongoing season, the youngster is struggling for game-time, as veteran custodian Arindam Bhattacharya is the first-choice between the sticks for ATK Mohun Bagan. Hence, a move to East Bengal would give him an opportunity to prove himself once again in the country’s top flight.

It has also been understood that the Mariners are not interested in parting ways with the player, despite having received multiple offers for him.

Meanwhile, SC East Bengal are currently struggling to find their first win in ISL 2020-21, as they continue to falter in defence. The Red & Gold Brigade recently parted ways with eight of their Indian players and are all set to loan out young goalkeeper Rafique Ali Sardar in the January window. Sources have told Khel Now that Dheeraj Singh would be roped as a replacement for the departing shot-stopper.
