The Romanian spoke on the back of his side's victory against FC Goa on Saturday.
Last season’s runners up Chennaiyin FC registered their second win of the 2020-21 campaign against FC Goa on Saturday. The Marina Machans won the game 1-2, with strikes from Rafael Crivellaro and Rahim Ali seeing the side move into eighth spot in the table. Chennaiyin FC head coach Csaba Laszlo fielded questions from the press after the game.
Anirudh Thapa’s fitness
Anirudh Thapa has established himself as one of the best Indian midfielders, making himself almost indispensable to both his club and the national side. The youngster’s injury against Bengaluru FC came as a blow to Csaba Laszlo who was delighted to welcome him back to the starting lineup for this game. However, the midfielder was taken off midway through the second half on a stretcher, with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. Laszlo provided an update on the status of his star man. “Thapa was a 100% fit and also I think he (was) more or less tired. It may be not a big injury.”
Chennaiyin FC’s tactics to neutralize FC Goa’s potent attack
FC Goa’s new signing, Igor Angulo had big shoes to fill when he was signed as the replacement for Feran Coronimas. The Spanish striker hit the ground running with six goals in six games for the Gaurs. When asked about his gameplan to neutralize the threat that FC Goa’s attack posed, Laszlo was full of praise for his side’s discipline and grit.

“I don’t work against just one player. Our plan was how we stop Goa because (they play) really good offensive football. Our tactic was to stay really compact, to not have too (much) space between our players. This worked very (well) like against Mumbai City. The boys have done a good job.”
Chennaiyin FC’s wastefulness in front of goal
Amidst the joy of picking up a second win in the Indian Super League, Csaba Laszlo was often left frustrated with his side’s inability to turn gilt edged chances into goals. Lallianzuala Chhangte had another shocking game in front of goal, firing wide when faced with an empty net, from no more than five yards out on two occasions. Misses from Jakub Sylvestr and Cirvellaro further piled on the Romanian coach’s frustration.
When asked about the reason behind his side’s lack of end-product, Laszlo asserted that his players needed to find the composure within themselves.
“It is not a lack of confidence because if you create so many chances, you also have to be focussed. Today, Chhangte had three fantastic chances. We are working on it in training. Even Rafa (Crivellaro) had a fantastic chance to score a goal. At the end of the day, I think that this was a very important three points for us. But, we can close the game earlier.”

The boss also showed his support for his misfiring winger, assuring the fans that he would be back to his best as soon as he got his confidence back.
“Nothing goes wrong because if a player comes (into a) position to have so many good chances, it is also that he has to have more confidence and also more attention. I think if he scores the next goals, he will get his confidence back and it will be easier for him.”
Chennaiyin FC will play their next match against ISL new boys SC East Bengal, at the Tilak Maidan stadium on the 26th of December 2020 at 7:30PM IST.
