The 39-year-old reacted after his side fell to their second consecutive defeat.
FC Goa suffered their second consecutive defeat, as they succumbed to a 1-2 loss to Chennaiyin FC. Rafael Crivellaro secured an early lead for the Marina Machans, but Jorge Ortiz Mendoza levelled the scores in the ninth minute. However, Rahim Ali notched the winner in the second half, as the Gaurs slipped to the seventh position in the table. Head coach Juan Ferrando was vocal about his disappointment at his team’s performance.
The club have had a tough run of fixtures with three matches in the last week. Juan Ferrando considered the lack of training due to the short span of time between matches as a key reason behind this result.
On his assessment of the game
Reflecting on the match, the tactician said, “Today, I think I am very disappointed with the game because we are not good in possession, in fighting the second balls. There are a lot of mistakes. Because this week we have a lot of games, some players are tired. I am totally disappointed today.”
Has the regular rotation of players hampered the overall performances?
Juan Ferrando made three changes to the starting XI in this game. It has been the case for most of the season and the coach has had to regularly tinker with the lineup. Pondering on whether that has affected the team’s outings, the head coach quipped, “Yes, of course. Because this season one problem is we don’t have time for training on the pitch. Then the most important is recovery and the (best) recovery players will be in the first XI. Of course, sometimes we decide more or less the same, but it’s not possible in this case. This is not an excuse. This is a real situation for us. But, today of course the plan was terrible, terrible for us.”
Thoughts on Alexander Romario Jesuraj
Alexander Romario Jesuraj has featured extensively for FC Goa this time around. He has notched two assists in five games and one of them was delivered in this match. Addressing the lad’s performance, Ferrando expressed, “With Romario, all the players are working. We put Romario because he is good in pace, he is good in working in defence. Of course, he needs to improve more. But, today is not a good day for the evaluation of all the players because believe me, I am disappointed about this game.”
Break before next game
The Gaurs will next come up against Jamshedpur FC on December 23. Ferrando was probed about whether he would prefer getting back on the pitch after a couple of days to secure a victory after two disappointing results. The 39-year-old mentioned, “Now, preparation, the most important thing to talk with the players because we have one game against Jamshedpur and the present and future is most important to us. The loss today is difficult because sometimes you lose the game, sometimes it’s necessary to think in some details, but today I am so, so sad.”
