Brandon Fernandes will be a fantastic player, predicts Juan Ferrando
The Spaniard also revealed that he is delighted with the midfielder's performance.
It was joy at the fourth time of asing for Juan Ferrando and his steadfast win-hungry FC Goa. A thrilling match which saw end-to-end action ended in Goa’s favour, thanks to an Igor Angulo brace and a Jorge Ortiz finish.
Kerala did manage to get a goal back through Vicente Gomez but it was too little too late and after Costa Nhamoinesu’s send-off, the Yellow Brigade’s chances at a comeback dimmed considerably.
The Spanish Head coach was satisfied with his team performance which ended up contributing to FC Goa’s first win of the season. But he also does not want to rest on his immediate laurel. “I am happy about the score because, for us, three points is very important. But I think it is also important to continue working. Because, we have some details that I am not a hundred per cent happy about.”
Ferrando also had praised the other dugout, lauding them for their style and philosophy on the pitch. “People who watched the game would have enjoyed the game. Two teams tried to play football. In building, positional attacking. I am happy to play football against this team, it feels fantastic. Not only for me, but for the fans and supporters and also for the future of football in India.”
One of the standout players of the day was Jorge Oritz. Juan Ferrando was delighted with the intensity shown by Ortiz during the match. “I’m very happy about Ortiz because he is working a lot. He has a lot of quality. He has been getting better day-by-day. In my opinion, we need more training and games and in two weeks, we need to become very good.”
Juan Ferrando also had good words for Indian midfielder Brandon Fernandes, asserting that he does his role in the team very well. “All the players in the squad are important for me. My job is to help improve all the players. Edu and Lenny work in the first line for building the game. Brandon is good in providing the last pass like Alberto Noguera and Igor is good in the final third.”
“But the most important for me is for them to continue working. I am very happy with Brandon. In my opinion, if he works on some details, he will become a fantastic player.”
He also felt that the game was a bit edgier than the scoreline suggested. “We had more clear opportunities. After 2-0, 10-12 minutes we were better than Kerala but only after going two goals up. Before that, Kerala was trying to play with Facundo and Vicente. Their full-backs are terrific players.”
The former head coach of Volos FC concluded by indicating that his team is still miles away from their best. “I am not paying attention to the scores. I am paying attention to the transitions. Because this is a big problem for the team. If it is possible to win 5-0 we want to win 5-0. But it is step-by-step. Our target today was three points.”
