The Hyderabad coach reminisced on an efficient victory for his side against the Marina Machans.
Hyderabad FC coach Manolo Marquez finally found his smile back, as his side romped to an efficient 2-0 win over Chennaiyin FC, completing the double over them this Indian Super League (ISL) season.
The Nizams strode to the win on the back of goals from Fran Sandaza and Joel Chianese to see out the Marina Machans, whose lack of goalscoring capability came back to bite them again.
The win ended the four-game streak of draws for Hyderabad FC and took them to third on the table ahead of FC Goa and only two points behind second-placed ATK Mohun Bagan.
The Result
Speaking on the result, Manolo Marquez replied, "A draw is obviously better than a loss (speaking on the previous four drawn games), but then we drew games and then to win this game, so that is a win along with those draws for us. We needed this win and I think we deserved the win."
Wasteful Opposition
Hyderabad's opponents on the day continued their trend of creating, but spurning glorious chances. Chennaiyin missed as many as 4-5 clear chances to score.
When asked whether his opponents' profligacy in front of goal helped his side, the coach took a milder approach, saying, "When we started this game, I heard that we (Hyderabad and Chennaiyin) had created the most chances in the league. Today, they also had a few chances and missed. The second half was a bit long but I think the second goal did it for us."
Fran Sandaza's performance
Fran Sandaza produced another sterling display and got his reward as he opened the scoring for the home team. Manolo Marquez expressed happiness on the effort of his compatriot, saying, "Fran has a lot of quality, he showed it in Spain. He rejected offers from clubs in La Liga and we knew his quality. Today, he showed and in the last game as well. I think if he keeps showing improvement, he is one of the best finishers in the league."
Playoffs Race
The win took Hyderabad to third in the league above Goa, but Marquez warned against the competition that they face for the playoffs spots. He remarked, "I think at the end of the championship, any team deserves to be where they are because of what they have done. FC Goa are also having a fantastic season and you can't tell which way it will go."
