The Spaniard blamed his substitutions for the late reversal against FC Goa.
FC Goa pulled off another miracle in the league by coming back from behind to win against Hyderabad FC in their latest game in the Indian Super League. The Nizams suffered their third consecutive defeat and head coach Manolo Marquez was really upset with his team’s performance.
Hyderabad FC were looking comfortable with their defense-first style of play in the game and managed to score the opening goal in the 58th minute, courtesy Aridane Santana’s perfect header. Things were in their grasp until the 87th minute, but Goa’s Ishan Pandita scored the equaliser after having just come on as a substitute.
Sprinkling salt on Hyderabad’s wounds, Igor Angulo scored his ninth goal of the season and sealed the victory for the Gaurs in stoppage-time. Manolo Marquez took responsibility for the defeat. “The only thing i have to tell is that it is my fault. It was a game that we deserved to win. But, the last substitution was totally wrong and they scored.”
The Spaniard got emotional after the conclusion of the game. Speaking to the broadcasters, he expressed, “Maybe, if I was the owner, I would sack the coach tonight. The defeat is on me, very angry with myself. We lost control after we switched to 4-4-2.”
Happy with attitude of players
Despite suffering a third consecutive defeat, the tactician felt that his team played well and showed a good attitude which they lacked in the last game. “I’m very happy with the attitude of the team, the players, and the staff. I think we lost the game from the bench with some substitutions,” he reiterated.

Joel Chianese’s substitution
Joel Chianese featured after a long injury layoff and he was instrumental in leading the attacks for Hyderabad in the first half. Although a very important player for the team, he was substituted at the break and Md.Yasir came in for the Spaniard. Addressing this topic, Manolo Marquez pointed out that the player is still not ready to play the full 90 minutes. “He was very tired after five weeks without playing any game,” the tactician stated.
