Both clubs are locked in the race for playoffs positions.

Hyderabad FC will face Chennaiyin FC in their next Indian Super League 2020-21 fixture. The Nizams come into this fixture on the back of an impressive draw against Bengaluru FC. The outfit had to dig deep and recover a two-goal deficit, which they were able to achieve through Fran Sandaza’s injury-time equalizer.

The 2-2 draw meant that Manolo Marquez’s team managed to stay in fourth place in the league table and remain undefeated in the last six matches. However, the upcoming clash with Chennaiyin FC is definitely going to be an exciting one to watch. Both clubs are fighting for a place in the top four and the result could have major repercussions for either side.

The Stakes

Marquez has instilled incredible self-belief in his young squad. The outfit have been the surprise package this term and deserve all the plaudits coming their way. That said, their recent form has been uncertain. With four consecutive draws, their march towards the playoffs has been halted.

The team need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible. Securing three points against a direct rival for a playoffs spot would be the best way to turn the tide back in their favour.

Last season’s runners-up, Chennaiyin FC have been dealing with inconsistency this campaign. The lack of creativity in their attacking department has hurt their ambitions. The outfit are lingering in the middle of the league table, three points behind fourth-placed HFC, who are on 19 points.

Similar to their next opponents, the Marina Machans have struggled to turn draws into wins. If the outfit intend to secure a playoffs spot soon, they must find a way to win against their direct rivals.

Team News

One can expect Fran Sandaza to start against CFC, with the rest of the squad to be the same as that in the last fixture. His partnership upfront with Aridane Santana looked promising. The team are relatively free of injuries and the coach will have a full strength squad to pick from.

Anirudh Thapa’s fitness remains a concern for the side, as he has missed the last couple of games. He is doubtful to start against Hyderabad too. Rest of the team are free of any injuries and suspensions. Recently signed Manuel Lanzarote could also feature for his new employers.

WATCH: Hyderabad FC surged past Chennaiyin FC with a 4-1 scoreline the last time they met

In their previous three meetings, the Nizams have won once, while the Marina Machans have secured victory on two occasions. Their last meeting ended in a 4-1 victory for Marquez’s men.

Probable Lineups

Hyderabad FC: Kattimani; Rai, Onaindia, Chinglensana, Mishra; Victor, Sandaza, Chianese, Narzary, Colaco; Aridane.

Chennaiyin FC: Kaith; Reagan, Sabia, Sipovic, Lalrinzuala; Thoi, Germanpreet, Memo, Chhangte; Sylvestr, Isma.

Man to Watch

Liston Colaco (Hyderabad FC)

Liston Colaco is the name on everybody’s lips this season. The young Indian winger has impressed fans and neutrals alike with his consistently good performances. He has been vital to Hyderabad's success and has grown in stature as the season has progressed. The 22-year-old is brimming with confidence.

He will be vital to HFC’s attacking gameplan against Chennaiyin FC. The opposition defenders must prevent the attacker from finding space in the channels and putting in pinpoint crosses for his teammates to latch on to. He has scored two goals and contributed with three assists this season.

Lallianzuala Chhangte (Chennaiyin FC)

Lallianzuala Chhangte has been one of the few players in the squad who has been solid on a consistent basis. The winger has been more involved in the build-up play and Csaba Laszlo trusts him to deliver the goods from the channels.

His work-rate has seen a massive improvement this term, as the player is tracking back to help the defence. However, he will look to add to the one goal and assist he has delivered. If he manages to be more clinical in the final third, Chhangte could be unplayable for any opposition.
