The head coach of the Marina Machans spoke ahead of their final match of the season.

Chennaiyin FC’s Indian Super League 2020-21 season is about to come to an end. They face Kerala Blasters in their last league fixture, with playoffs football out of question. Last season’s runners-up have had a campaign to forget and their coach Csaba Laszlo touched upon the need to stay positive, in the pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture.

A show of character

The tactician lauded his team’s efforts and praised their attitude despite a disappointing season. He said, “I think in full season, we did not have luck. But, I am still proud of the team for many reasons. The first is that the team showed character and in every single game, they go at the same level, no matter who the opponent is. We have to show the same character against Kerala.”

Willingness to win

Laszlo seemed motivated to end the season with a positive result, but lamented the failure of missing out on the playoffs. He was quoted, “We want to show our fans, club owners, helping staff around us, we want to win the game (for them).

"Hopefully, the football God is also with us. We won our first game against Jamshedpur and (hope) we win our last game against Kerala. Somehow, the sourness is there because we did not reach the minimum third place.”

Message for fans

The Romanian also sent out a message to the fans, who have passionately stuck behind the team through the rough patches in the season. He expressed, “You don’t always have good times, you have to face a time where the wind blows in your face and you have to somehow save your face. I think the team has saved face very often with a good performance. The character they have shown is for the fans and the respect to the fans. You don’t give up easily, you fight for every single minute as long as possible.

"We have to reload our energy and our unit for the next season, to learn from the mistakes of this season. I wish to have stadiums full with fans, especially our fans in the home stadium, so that the players can feel what a fantastic club Chennaiyin is,” Csaba Laszlo concluded.
