Gerard Nus: We showed today that we can adapt to situations
The Spaniard was delighted after his side managed to earn a point against the Yellow Army on Thursday.
NorthEast United made an amazing comeback after going 2-0 down to Kerala Blasters to salvage a point. Idrissa Sylla scored a 90th minute equaliser to take the Highlanders to the top of the table and their head coach Gerard Nus was delighted as he spoke to the media after the match.
In a game that had everything, NorthEast United conceded a penalty and missed one of their own The Highlanders' coach shared his thoughts about the penalty calls. “Penalties are always a part of the game, I didn’t see the first one. Obviously, I am looking forward to see it again. About the one that we conceded, definitely, I cannot blame the referees."
"It is a tough task for them and obviously we all are going to learn from the mistakes, if that was a penalty. I will see it obviously later on TV. About our penalty, the player in that case, Kwesi (Appiah) came to apologize but I said to him, 'Why? Why are you apologizing? Everyone can make this kind of mistake, the opponents also, they have a goalie.' This is part of football, we are not just thinking about the penalty, there are many other things that we have done. We managed it really well and I am very proud.”
The Spaniard was also full of praise for his opponents on the night. “We conceded two goals because they are a really good side. You see the first one, that set-piece, it’s something that we knew. But, it is always the other team, they did really well. They have fantastic players, a great coach and this happens. You know what they can do, what you can expect, but they are still dangerous.”
Further, Gerard Nus went on to express his thoughts on his side's performance saying, "We showed today that we are a team that can adapt to situations. We can comeback to the game even if the result is not in our favour."
He added, "We show character, we show how good we can defend. But, we also definitely show how we can keep possession, how we can create chances in many ways and have combination football. I am looking forward to see the stats as well, but we had many chances more than them. For moments of the game, we had a lot of possession and not just possession as a number or a stat. So proud of the performance tonight!”
In conclusion, Gerard Nus also defended his decision to play Rakesh Pradhan in a more advanced role on the night. “I think he is one of those players, he played 15 matches last season, he is on the roster, so he can play like anybody else. He did a really good first half, we thought that we needed something different and that’s it. He did a fantastic job. I am so proud of him and the rest of the players. Now, we are thinking about Goa."
