The Gaurs have won only thrice in their last nine games, while the rest of the matches have all been draws.

In what was one of the most entertaining matches of Indian Super League 2020-21 season, FC Goa held league leaders Mumbai City FC in a 3-3 stalemate on Monday. The Gaurs came back from behind twice, with Ishan Pandita scoring the equalizer in injury-time. Following the game, FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando spoke in the post-match press conference.

Thoughts on game

“I am happy because we managed to change the score from a difficult position at 2-0. After 3-2, the team continued working. Disappointed about defensive set-pieces.  Disappointed about transitions. Sometimes, the build-up was disappointing,” the Spaniard began.

“The team changed the score after 2-0. Won against Jamshedpur after trailing. Won against Hyderabad similarly. We can play with pressure," he added.

Playing for a draw?

Monday's draw marked the ninth undefeated game for the Gaurs, although they have registered only three wins during the streak. Speaking about it, Juan Ferrando made it clear that clinching a win remains his side's primary objective, however, several details regarding the gameplay needs to change.

"Of course, our mentality is to get three points. We try to protect the ball, try to find free space in attack, try to get shots on target. We want three points. It is not just problems in defence, there are overall details that need changing,” he claimed.

Thoughts on defence

Since the beginning of the season, Juan Ferrando has experimented with several defensive lines due to injuries and suspensions. However, the lack of stability in the back has been a point of concern for the team.

“I am happy because they are working. It is very difficult to keep changing the defensive line. The last four games our defensive lines have been different every time. It is very difficult,” he said.

Goalkeeping Department

The keeper's position has also been a point of concern for the Gaurs in this season, with Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem being the third goalkeeper to feature for them in this campaign.

"Naveen (Kumar) and Dheeraj are working hard every training. I am happy for both. The last decision depends on the opponent and the target to achieve in the game," he concluded.
