The tactician spoke ahead of a must-win match against Odisha FC.
Mumbai City FC are up against strugglers Odisha FC in their next Indian Super League 2020/21 fixture. The game is a must-win for the outfit, if they are to have any chance of finishing as league leaders. Sergio Lobera and defender Mandar Rao Dessai interacted with the media ahead of the match.
Need to improve own performance
The tactician talked about the potential plans to go past the challenge posed by Odisha in the upcoming game. He said, “Obviously, we need to improve our performance because if we want to win the game, playing like last time, it will be impossible to win the game.
"There is no special plan. We need to improve on both sides. In defence obviously we conceded a lot of goals in the last games and in attack we had a lot of chances, we need to be clinical.”
The statement after defeat to Jamshedpur FC
The Spaniard called the last performance against Jamshedpur FC the “worst in the season.” Giving an insight on why he said that, Lobera clarified, “I think the same, no change in my mind. We played the worst game in the season. Hopefully, this is the past. The most important thing for us is the present and future. We need to learn, be ambitious and demand from ourselves because we can work in a better way.
“I believe in my squad. I am sure in the next game we can show something different. It was a bad day in the office and sometimes this situation can happen. But, the most important thing is not to repeat the same situation,” he went on to add.
The task to keep players motivated
Sergio Lobera was also asked about how hard it was to keep his players motivated during a bad run of form. He answered, “I think its not hard. I think there is a lot of motivation from my players to win, they want to finish in the best position possible. We are very close to achieving this.”
Mandar Rao Dessai on last performances
MCFC have been going through a rough patch of late, with no victories in the last three games. Touching on that subject, Mandar said, “The last few games have been difficult for us. We will try to improve ourselves on the things we have done wrong here and there and try to be at our best in the very next game.”
