The tactician also revealed that he was delighted with the Marina Machans' gameplay on Saturday night.
Chennaiyin FC continued their unbeaten run in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) season as they played out a 1-1 draw against ATK Mohun Bagan on Saturday. The Marina Machans showed vigour and intent against the record champions. Bozidar Bandovic's men would rather feel hard done by for not coming out with three points.
ATK Mohun Bagan took the lead through Liston Colaco who scored a delightful curling effort past Vishal Kaith. However, Vladimir Koman's scorching finish just before half-time restored parity to the game. Despite both teams' best efforts, neither could score the winner.
Nonetheless, Chennaiyin FC remain undefeated so far this season. The draw also helped the Marina Machans to climb to the third spot in the league standings. Following the game, head coach Bozidar Bandovic spoke in the post-match press conference.
A spirited performance
Chennaiyin FC were good value for their performance. The Marina Machans dominated possession against Antonio Habas' men and played very well during the transitions and in the midfield.
Bozidar Bandovic spoke in delight on his team's show against the Mariners. "I want to congratulate my players for the way they played. Tactically, individually, in character and effort, the team showed they wanted to play to win till the end of the game. I'm very happy. If we keep playing like this, I'm sure we will win games," he began.
"We had chances today. Only that we need to work to make chances into goals. What I felt through was our performance was very serious and was at a high level," the tactician glowingly added.
Starts for Vanspaul and Lukasz
Edwin Vanspaul and Lukasz Gikiewicz made their first starts of the season for the southerners on Saturday night. Despite their best efforts, the pair couldn't make it count. Gikiewicz endured a frustrating night as he failed to register a shot. Bozidar Bandovic threw his weight behind the duo and praised their efforts in the game.
"We changed some plans this week, so I'm happy with the way the players reacted to it. I wanted to give Edwin a chance. I'm happy with the way he played," he quipped.
"About Lukasz, I think he gave a very good performance. I played Mirlan (Murzaev) a couple of games in front. But I saw Lukasz before this game, he did well coming off the bench. Tonight, I think he played very well. I think it is important because these players, when they get a start, it helps them and the rest of the team as well," he concluded.
