The tactician also spoke on the opposition players' individual quality.

FC Goa played their match against ATK Mohun Bagan at the Fatorda Stadium. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Gaurs. Liston Colaco’s ruthless finish in the 23rd minute and Roy Krishna’s pile-driver on the 56th minute saw the Mariners steal the show. However, Jorge Ortiz pulled one back for FC Goa, thanks to Amrinder Singh committing a howler between the sticks. Here is what FC Goa’s assistant coach Clifford Miranda had to say in the post-match press conference.

Did ATK Mohun Bagan have too much quality?

ATK Mohun Bagan are definitely a side full of quality players. When quizzed if the Mariners possessed too much quality under their belt, the assistant coach quipped, “If you are talking about individual (quality), then yes.

"They are a better team. Of course, they are better players. But, I think as a team we did well against established players and a good system. As a team we did very well.”

Areas where FC Goa lacked

FC Goa certainly were behind compared to ATK Mohun Bagan’s display. When asked about the areas where the team lacked, Miranda mentioned, “We need to work on our finishing in the final third.

"We also need to work on our coordination when we press – when the ball is shifted from one side to the other, the coordination in press is important.”

On Nemil and Devendra taking FC Goa forward

Muhammed Nemil and Devendra Murgaonkar showed their class in the Durand Cup. Devendra is currently a regular in the team. Meanwhile, Nemil too, got his first start in the Indian Super League.

When questioned if these youngsters will take FC Goa forward, the assistant coach asserted, “That’s the way. The club has very strong foundation at the base, where players from the youth teams are progressing with taking the steps upward. So, it’s good for the club overall.“

Emotions regarding Juan Ferrando in the opposition dugout

Clifford Miranda had mentioned after the previous game about the relationship he has with Juan Ferrando. When asked about his emotions before and during the game, regarding Juan Ferrando’s presence in the opposition dugout, Miranda stated, “It’s difficult because we worked for one and a half years together very closely. Very good progressive relationship, working relationship, a very good personal relationship.

"I’m sure it’s for him and me as well. We are friends and we care for each other before and after the game, but during the game we are professionals. I’m sure it goes the same for him as well. We work for our team and fight for our team.”
