The Spaniard left the Gaurs to join ATK Mohun Bagan mid-way through ISL 2021-22 season.
ATK Mohun Bagan stormed up to third place in the Indian Super League (ISL) table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over FC Goa on Tuesday. Goals in either half from Liston Colaco (23) and Roy Krishna (56) gave Juan Ferrando's side a comfortable lead and even Jorge Ortiz’s late strike couldn’t make much of a difference for the Gaurs.
The Mariners have now won their first two matches under Ferrando and are just three points far from the top-placed Mumbai City FC. FC Goa, who faced their first defeat in five matches, dropped down to eight and are languishing there with only eight points from as many matches.
Emotions after beating FC Goa
After a win over his former employers, Juan Ferrando spoke about his personal feelings on the game. “Of course, I’m 50% happy because our club got three points. But a part of me is upset since I know today’s opponents and I don’t like when FC Goa lose. But, I’m a professional coach and I’m thinking about the victories of my own team," said the Spaniard. Ferrando left Goa after activating his release clause and joined ATK Mohun Bagan two weeks ago.

Thoughts on Liston Colaco's wonder goal
Liston Colaco scored a spectacular long ranger to open the scoring. Speaking on that wonder strike, the Spaniard quipped, “I think every goal is important for the club. Our target is to improve a lot of details, be it to press or passing or our attacking – we need to improve a lot. But, every goal is important because it creates a great opportunity to get three points.”

When asked on getting ATKMB back to third place on the ISL table, Ferrando said, “We’ll see about that. I think it’s good, but our focus is to prepare for the next game against Hyderabad and forget about other things. We’re just focused on the game against Hyderabad.”
Speaking about the experience of co-ordinating with a new team midway through the season, the ATKMB tactician noted, “When you have a pre-season it’s perfect because you have more time. You can stop training and start to work one hour longer than usual. But, now it’s different.

“You know in this moment players are at risk of injuries and there are other problems. But, I’m happy because the coaching staff helped me a lot and the players want to work on my methodology. I’m very pleased with that,” he added.
Plans for January transfer window
Finally, Ferrando was asked about his club’s plans in the January transfer window. He revealed, “At this moment, I’m thinking about improving the squad. Maybe, we can talk about transfers in a few days. But, now my focus is to improve the squad, I have a very good squad and we need to improve as a whole team,” he finished.
