The ATKMB head coach also opined that the club have lost their identity in recent times.

ATK Mohun Bagan played out an action-packed 3-3 draw against Bengaluru FC in their Indian Super League (ISL) clash on Thursday. Subhasish Bose gave Antonio Habas and co. an early lead in the 13th minute, which was cut out by strikes from Cleiton Silva (18th minute) and Danish Farooq (26th minute) before the half-hour mark.

But, ATKMB rallied back, with goals from Hugo Boumous (38th minute) and Roy Krishna (58th minute) making it 3-2! However, Prince Ibara’s strike in the 72nd minute ensured that the Mariners could only go back with one point and their winless streak extended to four games!

Antonio Habas was quite honest about the game’s result, saying, “I think the draw is a fair result because neither team deserved a win. The match was horrible! Horrible! Now, a draw is a fair decider.”

When asked about whether he was surprised not to see Sunil Chhetri start the game, Habas replied, “Sunil Chhetri is a reference in Indian football, a reference for youngsters. We had to play against Bengaluru FC, not against Sunil.”

Habas was clearly aggravated after being asked about his team having just two points from their last possible 12. He explained, “We are in a bad run now. We don’t have any identity, we lost the identity. We have to recover our identity, if we want to qualify for the playoffs.

“The players have to know that! If we aren’t able to recover our identity or our playing style, it’s impossible to qualify for the playoffs,” he added.

Finally, the Spaniard was asked about his thoughts on ATKMB conceding 13 goals in just six games – despite conceding 15 goals in the entirety of last season. He answered, “It’s not possible to be the same every season.

“We have had to change players from last season, change options and this absolutely different. We have to improve this season and forget about the last one!,” Antonio Habas ended.

With the draw, ATK Mohun Bagan remain in sixth place in the ISL table, one point behind fourth-placed Odisha FC (who have a game in hand). The Mariners will be back in action in the ISL against NorthEast United on 21st December.
