Bengaluru FC defeated Jamshedpur FC 3-1 and remained unbeaten for nine straight matches.
Earlier on Saturday, Bengaluru FC beat Jamshedpur FC 3-1, thereby extending their unbeaten run to nine matches. Though Daniel Chima Chukwu scored the first goal for Jamshedpur FC, the Blues came from behind to win courtesy a brace from Cleiton Silva and a record-equalling strike from Sunil Chhetri. With this, Bengaluru FC remain third in the standings with 23 points as they inch closer to securing their playoff spot. After the game, head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli seemed visibly pleased when he attended the post match press conference.
Here are excerpts from the interaction:
On team's performance
First up, when asked if his team was finally at their best level, Marco Pezzaiuoli expressed, "No, I don't think the best because when you get a goal after one minute, you don't do the best. But, we have a great spirit and also had great set-pieces. We also had great movements in the game, which is why we won the game.
"Today, was a strong fight for both teams. We knew before that it would be a fighting game and we won the game because of this team spirit and quality in scoring goals."
Strength of & depth in team
Marco Pezzaiuoli was then asked about the number of goalscorers in the team. Basically, whether goals from others during Cleiton's absence and now from Cleiton himself portrayed the strength of his side. To this, he responded, "I think it shows the strength of the team because we have many goalscorers.
"Everybody who's inside can score and that's our quality, I think. That's the most important thing. Of course, I'm happy for Sunil and Cleiton when they score goals. But, our weapon is that we have many players who can score goals," said the head coach.
Whether Sunil Chhetri was back to his best
Further, Marco Pezzaiuoli was asked a question about Sunil Chhetri's form and whether he was back to his best -- the standards expected out of him. He answered, "I think he had a very good game, like the team. For strikers, it's a good moment every time you score.
"Not only did Sunil score, but also Cleiton scored and had a very good game, which is important for strikers. But, for me, it's important that the team plays well and that's why we win," he stated.
On possibilities of topping table
Finally, Marco Pezzaiuoli was asked about the turnaround in his side's campaign and whether finishing first in the standings was a possible ambition. Concluding the press conference with this, he stated, "No, we're focused on the next game again. Of course, a long time ago we wanted to be in the top four, but we're now focusing from game to game.
"We now have a very tough game next week against Hyderabad FC and they're in a flow as well. They also won the last game very high. So, let's see how we prepare and recover. We'll enjoy tonight and start preparing after tomorrow for the game," he concluded.
