As a team we did not play well, confesses Bozidar Bandovic

This was the Marina Machans' second defeat in seven matches in ISL 2021-22
It was a night of poor displays all around the pitch for Chennaiyin FC head coach Bozidar Bandovic and his team. The 3-0 defeat against Kerala Blasters means that they drop down to the sixth position on the points table. The Yellow Army were efficient in their attacks, while Chennaiyin couldn’t defend well.
The goals conceded by the Marina Machans were very uncharacteristic, given that they have one of the best defensive records this season. Bozidar Bandovic reflected on the result at the post-match press conference.
Did you underestimate tonight’s opponent?
Chennaiyin FC have had a better start to the season than Kerala Blasters and it might have been the case that the Marina Machans might have underplayed the Yellow Army’s strengths. Bandovic, however, thinks otherwise.
“Of course not. We as a team did not play well. The opponent was more confident, especially after scoring the goals, but we didn’t play well,” the coach conceded.

Problems at the back
After some strong defensive performances in the first few matches, Chennaiyin have let in five goals in their last three matches now.
“We were very stable in defence in the last few games, but today we did not press well and lost all our duels. Even in attacking, we had a bad day. Maybe, the second half was better, but it wasn’t enough to win the game,” Bandovic analyzed.

On long break before next game
After playing three games in the span of a week, Bandovic and Co. will next play on the 30th of December. “Yes, of course, the break helps our players to recover.
I was expecting players not to be fresh, but it is not an excuse for a bad performance. It will help to put the team together and try to win the next game,” the coach concluded.
