The NorthEast United head coach spoke of the team's performance following their loss to Chennaiyin FC.
NorthEast United, coached by Khalid Jamil, extend their winless run to six games following a 2-1 defeat to Chennaiyin FC. The Highlanders broke the deadlock, as Danmawia scored in the first half and walked into the break with a lead. But, the tables turned in the second half, as Chennaiyin somehow managed to get themselves into the game. Six minutes later, Vladamir Koman put his side level with a direct free-kick goal.
Jamil reacted quickly and brought in necessary reinforcements in Marcelinho and Marco Sahanek. The duo was effective from the first minute and caused a world of problems to the Marina Machans. NorthEast tried everything, but the crossbar and Debjit Majumdar stood tall against them on every occasion.
Post his side’s eighth defeat of the campaign, Khalid Jamil addressed the media.
Thoughts on game
It was an entertaining game from a neutral’s perspective, with an added dose of attacking. The head coach shared his thoughts on the game. He said that his side tried hard, but just got unlucky once again.
“We can say that everyone tried, but got unlucky. We hit the post thrice and if we hit the target, it’ll be alright,” Khalid Jamil asserted.
Plan for second half
NorthEast United were leading at half-time for the first time this season. Khalid Jamil was asked about the plans he discussed with his team before the second half. He replied ad shared that he asked his team to either score one more goal or hold on to the lead.
“When we were leading 0-1, we went inside and told them that it’s a good time to capitalize and score another goal or just keep the lead,” he answered.

Thoughts on new signings’ performance
Marcelinho and Marco Sahanek made their debut for the Highlanders tonight and were one of the few positives for Khalid Jamil’s side. Both brought a breath of fresh air for NorthEast United and looked very dangerous.
Sharing his thoughts on the duo, Khalid Jamil said, “Both of them came in and made a lot of difference. They’re quality players, so we need them from the start. Maybe, in the next game they’ll start.”
Update on Deshorn Brown
NorthEast United’s top scorer Deshorn Brown picked up an injury against FC Goa and has missed two games in a row now. The tactician shared an update on his striker and said that he’ll be fine soon. “He’ll be fine very soon, but we don’t know exactly when. Maybe, he’ll be there in the next game or maybe not,” Jamil concluded.
