BFC have remained winless in their last seven games.

Chennaiyin FC will look to recover from a heavy defeat and get back to winning ways when they take on struggling southern rivals Bengaluru FC in the Hero Indian Super League at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Thursday.

Chennaiyin's robust defence were put to the sword by high-flying Kerala Blasters who ran out 3-0 winners, leaving Božidar Bandović's wards sixth in the points table with 11 points from seven matches.

In Bengaluru, Chennaiyin will know they have an opponent who are not very high on confidence after remaining winless in their last seven games. Languishing at 10th place, the Blues got off to a winning start this season but since then haven't managed to muster a single victory, pocketing just six points from eight outings. They played out a dour 0-0 draw in their last game and once again lacked creativity in the final third.

The Marco Pezzaouli-coached team kept a clean sheet in the last game but in general lacked spark, which has been their bane for quite some time now. Skipper and Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri hasn't been at his best, forcing the coach to relegate him on the bench.

"Sunil is very professional, he works very hard and I see the luck is coming back in training, and it’s only a matter of time before it comes back in the games as well," Pezzaouli said on the eve of the game.

"It’s not difficult for me to tell Sunil that he isn’t starting. He’s a professional who assesses himself, and he knows very well how to deal with these situations. He is an option for tomorrow because he has been training well."

"We had a lot of time to train on some more tactics and we’ve prepared for tomorrow’s game against Chennaiyin FC," he added on the job at hand.

Chennaiyin coach Bandović stressed the team camaraderie in his pre-match press conference, saying it's very important to stay together especially inside a bubble. "The most important thing for me is that our players are okay. I am very happy with them. We are a team inside and outside the field and that is very important," Bandovic said. "We are trying to improve every game. The players are responding well and I am very happy with them. Our atmosphere is fantastic," he added.

Chennaiyin have failed to score against Bengaluru FC in their last four games and they would surely want to reverse the trend on Thursday. In the nine games between the two sides, Chennaiyin have won three games including the Hero ISL final in 2017-18. Bengaluru FC have four wins while two games ended in draws.

Team News

Chennaiyin FC

The Marina Machans have had a long break since their humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Kerala Blasters FC. Bozidar Bandovic’s men would have used this break to great effect for their preparation.

The game offers Chennaiyin FC a chance to get back into the playoff spots. A win against their rivals would sure be a shot-in-the-arm for the team. But they would still need a lot of work on their end product. A struggling Bengaluru FC side offers the Marina Machans a great opportunity to improve their goalscoring output.

For now, other than Rafael Crivellaro all the other players are fit and available for selection for Bozidar Bandovic.

Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru FC have faced plenty of issues with injuries. Leon Augustine and Yrondu Musavu-King continue to remain sidelined with injuries. They now face further issues as Udanta Singh has also been ruled out of tomorrow’s game due to soreness.

The Blues though will welcome Roshan Naorem back from suspension. Marco Pezzaiouli’s men remain rooted in 10th place and need some inspiration and a consistent run of results to get their season back on track. A win against rivals Chennaiyin FC could be the perfect restart for them.

Head-to-Head

Both teams have faced each other nine times in the ISL. Bengaluru FC have the upper hand with four wins to the Marina Machans’ three. The two drawn fixtures have been goalless draws between the two rivals.
