The Marina Machans moved to third in the standings with this victory.

Chennaiyin FC put in a dominant performance to obtain their third win of the season against Odisha FC. The Marina Machans rode on goals from Germanpreet and Mirlan Murzaev, which put them in a comfortable lead. Javi Hernandez pulled one back for Odisha through a stunning strike, but it was too little, too late for the Juggernauts to make any sort of a comeback.

The win took Chennaiyin FC to third in the ISL 2021-22 standings, while Odisha FC have now suffered consecutive defeats and three in their last four matches, leaving the Juggernauts fifth, with only nine points from six matches.

Here are the player ratings from the Chennaiyin FC Vs Odisha FC match based on players' performances on the night:

Chennaiyin FC (by Kaushik G Viswanath)

Vishal Kaith- 7.5

The goalkeeper put in an improved performance. Made some superb saves to keep the in-form Odisha attack at bay. But, was undone by a screamer by Javi Hernandez in the final moments to be denied a deserved clean-sheet.

Reagan Singh- 9.0

Brilliant once again on the night. Contributed at either end of the pitch. Three chances (joint-highest for any CFC player), three crosses, six clearances, two interceptions and a 79% pass completion rate, show the effort put in by the experienced right-back on the night.

Narayan Das- 8.0

Once again he was a rock at the back. Was rather lucky not to get sent off in the first half. Completed 91% of his passes, the second-highest among CFC players on the night. Also cleared three balls and made two interceptions.

Slavko Damjanovic- 9.0

Turning out to be the most consistent performer for the Marina Machans this season. Once again led his team’s defence with three successful tackles, five clearances and two interceptions.

Jerry Lalrinzuala- 8.5

Forming one of the best full-back partnerships in the ISL with Reagan Singh. Chipped in with three tackles, three clearances and two interceptions. Also created two chances and completed three crosses on the offensive end.

Ariel Borysiuk- 8.0

.Once again was a class act in defensive midfield. Covered the defensive end well when the full-backs pushed higher and also bossed the ball for major parts of the game.

His mastery of the midfield was evident from his 93% pass completion rate. He also completed one successful tackle, one clearance and three interceptions, often helping in spurring the attack from deep midfield.

Germanpreet Singh- 8.0

Scored the opener on the night. Combined well in midfield with Borysiuk and Koman. Completed a tackle and interception respectively. Also completed 81% of his passes before being taken off in the 76th minute.

Vladimir Koman- 8.0

Once again was at the heart of everything good for Chennaiyin FC. Proving to be their talisman off late. Created three chances and also made 99 touches on the ball, the most by any player on the pitch. Completed 88% of his passes, two successful tackles, three interceptions and one clearance.

Anirudh Thapa- 8.0

The skipper with Koman weighed heavily on his side’s progress with the ball. Showed a very mature head on the ball and was robust in his challenges when off it. Showed a lot of energy on the night. Created one chance and completed 80% of his passes.

Lallianzuala Chhangte- 7.0

Was once again left wanting more in the final third. Had plenty of chances to add to his solitary goal so far this season, but his final touch didn’t help.

Nonetheless, Chhangte caused Odisha plenty of problems on the left with his pace and movement, on and off the ball. He was taken off in the 72nd minute.

Mirlan Murzaev

Mirlan Murzaev- 9,0

Scored a stunner to double Chennaiyin FC’s lead. Showed his quality by causing loads of problems when on the ball. Proving to be Chennaiyin’s best bet in front of goal against Odisha. Was taken off in the 76th minute.

Substitutes

Edwin Vanspaul- 5.5

Came on in the 77th minute for Germanpreet. Had a few half-chances but couldn’t capitalize. Only had 11 touches, an 80% pass completion rate and one successful tackle in his 13-minute cameo.

Rahim Ali- 5.5

Came on for Chhangte in the 72nd minute. Once again showed energy off the ball but recklessness on it. Seems to complicate things for himself a lot when through on goal. Finished 70% of his 10 attempted passes and completed one successful tackle.

Ninthoinganba Meetei- N/A

Came on in the final minute of the game and hence didn’t have anything to do.

Suhail Pasha- N/A

His debut in the ISL would’ve made his father and Chennaiyin FC assistant coach Syed Sabir Pasha proud. But, Suhail came on in the final minute of the game and hence didn’t have anything to do.

Lukasz Gikiewicz- 5.0

Missed a penalty and a golden opportunity to get himself going this season. Seems to rather isolate himself too much or struggle to get on the ball. Physically though he has been good. Not much to show for his 14-minute stint on the pitch.

Odisha FC (by Sattyik Sarkar)

Kamaljit Singh- 7.0

Conceded two goals, but had nothing to do with both of them. Apart from conceding, he also saved one clear-cut chance by Lallianzuala Chhangte. Adding to this he saved Lucasz Gikiewicz’s penalty and prevented further damage for his team.

Lalhrezuala Sailung- 6.5

Zuala was subbed in the second half. His performance was full of ups and downs. At times he stopped Jerry Lalrinzuala and Mirlan Murzaev. He could have done better for the first goal.

Victor Mongil- 6,0

Wasn’t seen much in the first half. He, however, showed glimpses of good defending in the second half. Denied Chhangte a scoring opportunity.

Gaurav Bora- 7.0

Displayed a poor performance in the first half. However, in the second, Bora pulled up his socks and performed way better. He made a crucial block at the latter stage of the game to deprive Gikiewicz of a goal.

Lalruatthara- 5.5

The left-back struggled throughout his stay on the pitch. Was replaced in the second half.

Thoiba Singh Moirangthem- 6

Thoiba looked decent at the start, but he fizzled out in the second half.

Paul Ramfangzauva- 6.0

Displayed some trickery once in the middle of the park. As per his defensive contribution, he can certainly do better. Was subbed in the second half.

Isaac Vanmalsawma- 6.0

Conceded a yellow card for a dive and playacting inside the opposition penalty box. Wasn’t up to the mark.

Javi Hernandez- 7.0

Got enough chances to score and perhaps equalize, but his free-kicks and shots lacked venom tonight. Finally, at the fag end of the game scored from a pile-driver.

Aridai Cabrera- 7.0

Not in his best of form. Had two glances at goal; one was saved, the other kissed the crossbar and went out for a goal-kick.

Jonathas de Jesus- 6.0

Didn’t see much of him apart from a layoff towards Isaac. Unfortunately, the latter dived and earned himself a yellow card.

Substitutes

Sebastian Thangmuansang- 5.0

Replaced Zuala in the second half. Gave away a penalty after tripping Vladimir Koman in the box. Luckily the spot-kick was saved by the keeper, else the score-line would have been worse.

Vinit Rai- 5.0

Didn’t see much of him. Hardly created any impact after his inception.

Jerry Mawihmingthanga- 5.0

Darted forward from the right flank after replacing Zuala. Didn’t create much impact.

Deven Sawhney- N/A

Isak Vanlalruatfela – N/A
