Ratings: Cabrera, Santana shine as FC Goa, NorthEast United draw

The draw did no favours to either team on the points table.

FC Goa locked horns with NorthEast United at the Athletic Stadium this evening. It has been two years since FC Goa have defeated their counterparts. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with both sides sharing the spoils. Hernan Santana gave the lead to NorthEast from a fabulous free-kick in the third minute. However, in the 39th minute, Airam Cabrera headed the equalizer from an Alberto Noguera corner.

On that note, here are the ratings for tonight’s clash.

FC Goa (by Sattyik Sarkar)

Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem - 6.5

Conceded a goal from a free-kick. Can’t be completely blamed for the goal. Also made two saves.

Leander D’Cunha - 6.0

Gave away the free-kick from which Hernan Santana scored. Also received a yellow card in the process. Made a clearance and blocked a shot.

Won just one out of five ground duels. Enjoyed a passing accuracy of 89%. One of his shots was blocked. Three of his long balls out of five were accurately delivered.

Anwar Ali - 7.0

Led the Indian backline with prowess. Made four clearances, apart from an interception and committed a tackle. Attempted two ground duels and was successful once. Blocked two shots. Enjoyed a passing accuracy of 85%. 50% of his long balls were accurate.

Aibanbha Dohling - 6.5

Made two clearances and blocked a shot. Was dribbled past once. Won five out of six aerial duels however, in the ground duels was successful on one occasion in four attempts. Lost possession 13 times.

Alexander Romario Jesuraj - 7.0

Delivered three key passes tonight. Had two shots on target as well. One of his shots was blocked en route to goal. Won the solitary ground duel, but failed in the only aerial duel. Committed a tackle and made an interception. Lost possession of the ball 18 times.

Princeton Rebello – 7.5

Brilliantly orchestrated the game. Enjoyed a passing accuracy of 83%. Delivered two key passes. 10 of his 13 long balls were sent in accurately.

Created one big chance as well. Won four out of five ground duels and both the aerial duels. Committed three tackles and made an interception and a clearance each.

Alberto Noguera - 8.0

It was his corner from which Airam Cabrera equalized for FC Goa, after NorthEast United scored an early goal. Enjoyed a passing accuracy of 85%. Also delivered six key passes.

Only two of his six crosses were sent in accurately. However, 10 out of his 13 long balls were successful in their flight. Won 75% of the ground duels. Was fouled twice.

Glan Martins - 7.5

Offensively, delivered two key passes. One of his shots was blocked. Defensively, he was on fire. Won all eight ground duels and 50% of the aerial duels as well. Blocked a shot. Made three interceptions and committed six tackles.

Saviour Gama - 6.5

Won three out of four ground duels and the solitary aerial duel. Lost the possession nine times tonight. Was fouled once by the opposition. Committed two tackles and made an interception. Offensively couldn’t contribute much.

Airam Cabrera - 7.5

Scored the equalizer tonight. Had two shots on target. Missed a great opportunity at the fag end of the game. Delivered two key passes for his teammates.

Jorge Ortiz - 7.5

Was named the Man of the Match tonight. Registered four shots on target. However, six of his shots were off target. One of his shots was blocked.

Like Cabrera, Ortiz too missed a big chance. None of his crosses met their target. He won seven of the 16 ground duels and the solitary aerial duel. Was fouled four times and trapped offside twice. Lost possession 28 times.

Substitutes

Makan Winkle Chothe - 6.5

Joined the action in the 77th minute. All of his four passes were accurate. Won a ground duel while contesting in four of them. Lost possession once. Committed a tackle. Was successful in dribbling past the opponent.

NorthEast United (By Yash Pratap Singh)

Mirshad Michu - 7.5

The keeper pulled off multiple good saves, but also looked nervy and hence, conceded a goal. He made four saves inside the box, one high claim and two punches. Mirshad was undoubtedly the standout performer for NorthEast United against FC Goa.

Provat Lakra - 7.0

Lakra looked decent in the full-back position and also moved up the pitch to make contributions in the attacking third. He even attempted a shot which was blocked by FC Goa’s defence.

Mashoor Shereef - 6.5

Mashoor went ahead for set-pieces and also tracked back on time to defend. However, he wasn’t very good with his man-marking and it was his mistake that allowed Goa to score.

Patrick Flottman - 6.5

The Aussie was decent at the back. He made four clearances, two blocks and tackles each. Flottman was also caught out of position a couple of times and was below-par with his passing precision.

Gurjinder Kumar - 6.0

Kumar had a decent outing on his return to the side following an injury. He went ahead to compliment his wingers and was up to par defensively as well. Gurjinder attempted two shots and tested the keeper and Goa’s defence.

Sehnaj Singh - 6.0

He looked good on his return to the starting XI. Sehnaj did the dirty work in the middle of the park and won his duels. But, he also lost the ball a lot of times.

Hernan Santana - 7.0

The Spaniard delivered a captain’s performance. The NorthEast United defender opened the scoring with a free-kick as pretty as a picture, catching FC Goa keeper Dheeraj Singh off-guard. Hernan came back to defend and was involved in the thick of things for the Highlanders.

VP Suhair - 7.0

Suhair looked lively on either flank with his swift movements. He won majority of his ground and aerial duels and also made important defensive contributions, with four tackles and an interception and tackle each.

Imran Khan - 6.5

Imran controlled the tempo of the game for NorthEast. He created chances and initiated good link-up play with Deshorn Brown and wasn’t bad defensively either. However, he lost the ball multiple times in key positions.

Rochharzela - 6.0

He made three interceptions and also contributed in attack. The winger recorded the top speed of around 30 kmph in the 54 minutes that he played. However, it was his decision-making that let him down in crucial moments.

Deshorn Brown - 6.5

The Jamaican had a quite night against the Guars. He was kept in check on almost every occasion, but he still managed to create a chance. Unfortunately, his shift was cut short due to a hamstring injury.

Substitutes

Laldanmawia Ralte - 6.5

The winger replaced Rochharzela who suffered an injury early in the second half. Danmawia looked good on the right flank late in the second half, with his good movements and crosses. He also make two tackles and won 50% of his ground duels.

Mohamed Irshad - 6.0

Irshad replaced Sehnaj in the middle of the park. He put in an important last-ditch tackle and also won the ball a few times in the midfield.

Lalkhawpuimawia - 5.0

Mapuia replaced Deshorn Brown in the final 10 minutes of the game. He combined well with Danmawia once and also completed majority of his passes.
