The India international finally got back among the goals after what has been a poor season.
FC Goa locked horns with ATK Mohun Bagan at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. The match ended in a 2-0 victory for the Mariners, courtesy a brace for Manvir Singh. Singh’s goals came on the 3rd and 46th minute respectively. The result meant that ATK Mohun Bagan are now on the same points as of table-toppers Hyderabad FC.
Their goal-difference keeps the Mariners in the second position. Meanwhile, FC Goa have now suffered their seventh loss of this edition of the Indian Super League. Their position in the league table remains unchanged.
On that note, let’s have a look at the player ratings for tonight’s match.
FC Goa (by Sattyik Sarkar)
Dheeraj Singh – 5.5
Though the FC Goa goalkeeper conceded two goals this evening against ATK Mohun Bagan, Singh successfully saved a long-ranger in the second half. Additionally, he also denied Manvir Singh his hat-trick near the hour mark. Came out of the box and cleared a ball as well.
Seriton Fernandes – 5.5
Seriton looked comfortable on the right in the first half. After conceding the early goal, it was his runs which caught the eye. His shot in the first half was blocked by Deepak Tangri.
Ivan Gonzalez – 6.0
Perhaps, Gonzalez was the best defender for FC Goa tonight against ATK Mohun Bagan. He was defensively solid. In the first half, after Dylan Fox failed to pass the ball to the keeper and Manvir Singh got hold of it, it was Gonzalez who made a sliding challenge in the penalty box to put the ball out for a corner. He won four of the six ground duels in the match.
Dylan Fox – 4.5
It wasn’t Fox’s day at the office. He was outplayed by Liston Colaco and Manvir Singh on a few occasions. He had to be substituted in the second half.
Anwar Ali – 6,0
Ali’s position was changed to a left-back tonight. He wasn’t up to the mark in the makeshift position. The defender tried his luck from range on an occasion in the first half, which was saved by goalkeeper Amrinder Singh and flicked the woodwork before it went out for a corner.
After Dylan Fox was taken off, he was shifted back to the centre-back position. In the 75th minute, Ali denied Liston Colaco of a clear goalscoring attempt.
Makan Winkle Chothe – 4.5
A magnifying glass would have been useful in order to search for the FC Goa player on the pitch against ATK Mohun Bagan. Chothe hardly contributed anything to the game. He was subbed off in the second half.
Princeton Rebello – 5.0
Rebello orchestrated the game well during his stay. In the absence of Edu Bedia, he and Glan Martins paired up well. He enjoyed a passing accuracy of 81%. Also, he was able to deliver one key pass.
Alberto Noguera – 6.0
Noguera’s efforts really caught the eye in this match. In the first half, he got a chance to draw level, but tried to pass it to compatriot Jorge Ortiz, which eventually was intercepted by Tiri. He delivered two key passes tonight.
Glan Martins – 5.0
Martins wasn’t up to the mark tonight. Yet, after coming back from an injury, he can't be completely ruled out as well. Delivered a fine through ball in the first half to Alberto Noguera. He also received a yellow card.
Brandon Fernandes – 5.0
Like most of his teammates, Brandon too was off-colour this evening. However, he was able to deliver two key passes. In the first half, the FC Goa captain tried a shot from distance, which ATK Mohun Bagan keeper Amrinder Singh saved comfortably. Unfortunately, he gave away possession many times in the match.
Jorge Ortiz – 4.5
Ortiz was nowhere near his best in this match. In the first half, he took a shot from the edge of the box which went off target. He was able to deliver two key passes tonight. His shot at the fag end of the match was successfully saved by the keeper.
Substitutes
Saviour Gama – 5.5
Gama came on in the 52nd minute. During his stay, he was able to deliver a key pass. However, he was fouled once by the opposition.
Airam Cabrera – 5.0
Cabrera had the chance to pull one back for the FC Goa in the second half against ATK Mohun Bagan, but his shot went off target. All his crosses were accurate in tonight’s match.
Alexander Romario Jesuraj – 4.5
Jesuraj came on in the 72nd minute. He hardly made any contribution to the game apart from a key pass. Jesuraj also registered a shot on target.
Nongdamba Naorem – 4.5
Naorem could have been a super-sub and pulled one back for FC Goa. But, his left-footed shot went off target.
Leander D’Cunha – 4.5
D’Cunha didn’t have much time to showcase anything. He just delivered a successful cross.
ATK Mohun Bagan (By Riddhiman Sarkar)
Amrinder Singh - 6.5
Had to pull one save out of the top drawer to deny Anwar Ali a goal from a thunderous strike. Made four saves in total and had to run out of the box for a high claim once.
Sandesh Jhingan - 6.5
Athletic defending from the well-built ATK Mohun Bagan centre-half against FC Goa, as he marshaled the wide areas well. Made three interceptions and four tackles. Also won all five of his ground duels and lost only one of his four aerial duels.
Pritam Kotal- 6.5
The robust captain led the ATK Mohun Bagan defence to yet another clean-sheet against FC Goa. Made two interceptions and blocked one shot in the entirety of the match.
Tiri- 6.5
Cautious of the threat posed by the likes of Alberto Noguera and Jorge Ortiz, as he communicated properly with Amrinder to clear dangerous balls. Boasted a pinpoint 74% passing accuracy and made three interceptions.
Subhasish Bose - 6.5
Yet another composed performance from the versatile ATK Mohun Bagan left-back, as he continuously marauded up and down the flank to support Manvir and Liston on the counter against FC Goa. Won seven out of his 14 ground duels and two out of three aerial duels.
Lenny Rodrigues - 7.0
Robbed Princeton of the ball and released Manvir Singh for his second goal on the night. Also got 46 touches on the ball won four out of six ground duels.
Deepak Tangri - 6.5
Maintained a solid shape in the middle of the park, alongside Lenny to retain ATKMB’s clean-sheet. Substituted for Kiyan Nassiri in the 89th minute, after completing 71% of his passes.
Prabir Das- 6.5
Good outing for the high-flying wing-back, as he won five out of his nine ground duels and successfully completed both of his take-ons.
Joni Kauko - 6.5
Missed a few chances to get on the scoresheet. Subbed off for Ashutosh Mehta in the 65th minute, with a 93% pass completion rate and two completed long passes.
Liston Colaco- 7.5
Tested Dheeraj with a sublime shot and teed up Manvir for ATKMB’s opener, to finish a decent first half performance. Came off for Michael Soosairaj in the 90th minute, with 50 touches on the ball.
Manvir Singh - 8.0
Flicked Colaco’s corner delivery expertly into the far corner to give the Mariners the lead. Started the second half with a beautiful goal after a mere 14 seconds, when he collected Lenny’s pass and rounded Dheeraj Singh to tap into an empty net. Bowed out in the 89th minute as Bidyananda Singh came on, with three take-ons completed out of four.
