The head coach talked after a crucial win that took his team into the semi-final.

Hyderabad FC became the first team to secure a semi-final berth in the ongoing Indian Super League season with a 2-1 win over Kerala Blasters FC. Manolo Marquez’s men were too strong for the Yellow Army and goals from Bartholomew Ogbeche and Javier Siverio ensured they reached the playoffs for the first time ever in their third year in existence.

The Spaniard boss was a relieved figure while in conversation with the media. He gave the credit to his players for their incredible achievements. Furthermore, he demands focus in the next few games for a chance to finish at the top of the table. Here is what Manolo Marquez said during the post-match press conference:

Players deserve the credit

The head coach selflessly dedicated the achievement of qualifying for the semis to his players and staff. He said, “We are very happy. I want to dedicate arriving into the top four to all the players and members of the staff. We could not qualify last season, in the last game. Ivan (Vukomanovic) entered our room to congratulate our team for qualifying. I think this is the level of coaches that the ISL needs personally.”

Not in our hands

The next goal for Hyderabad FC would be to finish at the top of the ISL table and win the League Shield. However, the tactician clarified how the situation is entirely not in their hands and the team must rely on results elsewhere to finish as table toppers. He said, “The first goal was to finish in the top four. Now we have to play two games and try to win them.

“We depend on the ATK Mohun Bagan scores and it is not in our hands to finish at the top of the table. But, we have to celebrate at least tonight. We will think about the other game, you have to keep going and let’s see if we can beat a very good team like Jamshedpur FC.”

We can play better

Expressing his opinion on the goal from Vincy Barreto in the last few minutes of the match, the tactician said that it was avoidable. He concluded by saying, “Yes, I think, despite we are happy that it’s the first time in the history of Hyderabad that we have qualified for the playoffs. It is true we are a young club.

“But, it is true that, in the last games, we can play better. Today, more or less, we controlled the game but in some moments Kerala Blasters created clear chances. Always, you can avoid one goal. It was in the last minute but now it’s not important, what’s important for the team is qualifying for the top four.”
