The Nizams' head coach also expressed that his side did not play well.

In what came as a disappointment, Hyderabad FC were held 1-1 by SC East Bengal in the Indian Super League on Thursday. Despite not being able to clinch the victory, the Nizams extended their unbeaten run to six games and climbed to the second place in the standings. On the other hand, the Red & Gold Brigade continued their stay at the bottom and are yet to win their first match of the season.

Manolo Marquez accepted the fact that his team did not perform well on Thursday evening. Hyderabad FC looked wasteful and the changes to the lineup did not help their cause. Speaking during the post-match press conference, the 53-year-old expressed his opinions on the result and more.

On the changes in defence

Nikhil Poojary and Joao Victor took their place in the back-four against SC East Bengal, to the surprise of many. Asserting that he was forced into making changes in the backline, Manolo Marquez expressed, “They could not play, one because he received a strong tackle and will be out for more than one game (Asish Rai). The other guy (Juanan) has problems with his knee. Joao is not the first time, he played a lot of games as a centre-back, not only in Hyderabad but in other clubs.”

Not happy with the result

The Spaniard made it clear he was not happy with the point. Even though he agreed that his team did not deserve to win, missing out on three points is disappointing still.

“Of course not, I don’t think we deserved more than one point but I am not satisfied because at least it’s one point but we lost a good chance to add one more win,” he opined.

Prospect of losing two points

Citing the toughness of the competition, Manolo Marquez believes his team are still in a good place and the point is not the worst outcome from the match.

“All the games are very difficult, SC East Bengal are in a bad moment…maybe the problem is for them. We are in a good situation in the table but of course, we wanted to win the game today,” he asserted.

Not many positives

While speaking in regards to the positives from the match, Manolo Marquez said, “Not too much, I think the team was very bad. Maybe the performance from Sahil Tavora in the second half was very good. In terms of football, I don’t think we played a good game.”
