The NorthEast United boss felt a misunderstanding between the defenders and the goalkeeper led to the last goal.
NorthEast United FC were on the receiving end of an injury-time defeat by Jamshedpur FC in their opening game of 2022. Khalid Jamil's side took the lead in the fourth minute, courtesy of Deshorn Brown. However, their lead was cancelled out by the Men of Steel just before half-time.
Jamshedpur FC took complete advantage of NorthEast United’s leaky defence and went ahead in the second half. NorthEast United fought back with Deshorn Brown scoring in the final minute of regulation time, before Ishan Pandita did what he does best. Pandita came off the bench and scored yet another injury-time goal to hand his side their first victory of 2022.
After the match, NorthEast United’s head coach Khalid Jamil addressed in the post-match press conference.
Lack of concentration
The Highlanders scored the equaliser in injury time and it looked like that both sides would settle for a draw. Khalid believes that a lapse in concentration cost NorthEast United the game.
“Today we could have got at least one point. We got unlucky due to the last goal. It was a misunderstanding between the defenders and the goalkeeper due to lack of concentration,” he began.

Leaky Defence
The tactician was asked if his defenders let him down on Thursday night. Khalid said that it was not their mistake and he takes complete responsibility for the loss.
“No, I can’t blame anyone. It was my mistake and I’ll take the blame and not blame anyone else,” Jamil replied.

Absence of Khassa Camara
The Mauritanian midfielder’s absence has affected the Highlanders hugely. Khalid Jamil, however, refused to be drawn into matters out of his hands. “It is out of control because he’s not here. He’s out for his national duty. If it’s out of our control, we cannot do anything to solve it.”
How does he plan to turn the season around?
The Highlanders have had a dreadful first half of the ISL 2021-22 season. But they still have a chance to turn the tables around in the second half of the season. Khalid feels that winning the next game is the best solution for them.
“We have to think about winning our next game because that’s the only solution. We cannot give any excuses and everyone must play their role. If we don’t have the results, I’m not blaming anybody and all the blame is on me,” he signed off.
