The victory propelled Ivan Vukomanovic's men to second in the standings.
A 10-man Kerala Blasters side held on and beat NorthEast United 2-1 to move to second in the Indian Super League points standings. The Blasters are now just three points behind Hyderabad FC with a game in hand. After a dismal first half where they lacked any edge and were lucky not to concede, the Blasters came alive in the second. Jorge Pereyra Diaz put Ivan Vukomanovic's men ahead with a tap-in header in the 71st minute.
But soon Kerala Blasters went a man down after Ayush Adhikari, in his second start this season, was shown a second yellow and given marching orders. With his side playing second fiddle to NorthEast United, Alvaro Vazquez then scored a wonderous goal to kill the game and put Kerala Blasters in firm control. Vazquez intercepted a pass from Mashoor Shereef, looked up, saw NorthEast United goalkeeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury out of his line and scored a stunning long-ranger on the bounce. Mohamed Irshad pulled one back in stoppage time but it was nothing more than a consolation. The defeats keep NorthEast United at the bottom.
On that note, let’s have a look at the player ratings of both teams.
Kerala Blasters (by Sattyik Sarkar)
Pranhsukhan Gill – 7.0
Gill conceded a late goal in the match. In the second half, he came off his line, took hold of the ball and passed it away beautifully, with sheer calmness.
Harmanjot Khabra – 7.0
Khabra’s laid the ball for Diaz to open the scoring for the Blasters with a well-timed header. Defensively, he made a clearance and three interceptions. He committed just a tackle and won all three ground duels. He also delivered three key passes tonight and registered a shot on target.
Marko Leskovic – 6.5

Hormipam Ruivah – 6.5
The youngster was substituted at the fag end of the match. He made six interceptions and committed two tackles, one of which was perhaps a mistake, rectified by the man himself. Ruivah won 50% of the ground duels.
Nishu Kumar – 7.5
Ever since the first half, his dribbling prowess from the left stunned the Highlanders’ defence. It was his cross that brought about the opener for Kerala Blasters. Alvaro Vazquez – 8.0
With Kerala Blasters a man down and with only a slender lead to protect, Alvaro Vazquez turned up. His longer ranger will perhaps still fall short in front of his own volley against Mumbai City, but KBFC fans will remember it in the days to come. His goals secured the win eventually.
