Former NorthEast United striker Kwesi Appiah joins Crawley Town FC

Former Northeast United FC forward Kwesi Appiah has signed for English fourth tier side Crawley Town FC on a season long deal with an option for second, subject to international clearance.

The target man has a vast experience of playing in the EFL and most recently in India’s top flight for Northeast United. He found the net on three occasions in eight outings for the Highlanders.

Appiah is a former Crystal Palace player, having signed a five-year deal with them in 2012. However, he made just six appearances for the Premier League side and spent the remaining part of his contract at Aldershot Town, Yeovil Town, Notts County, AFC Wimbledon, Cambridge United, Reading and Viking on loan deals.

Between his two loan stints at Cambridge, Appiah scored a remarkable 18 goals in 40 competitive appearances, also providing eight assists. Appiah re-signed for League One side AFC Wimbledon on a permanent deal in 2017. His tally of 59 outings saw him register his name of the scoresheet 11 times for The Dons.

On the international front, the striker has represented Ghana at the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON). He has seven international caps and two goals for the Black Stars.

Officials speak:

Manager John Yems said: “Kwesi is a good addition to the club, he has a good footballing CV and is a very experienced player who knows some of the lads from playing with them earlier on in his career, I hope he enjoys his time here.” 

Chief Executive Erdem Konyar said: “We are delighted to add Kwesi to our ranks. Kwesi brings good experience and adds further quality to the team. I wish him the best in a Crawley shirt.”
