6:00 PM: Hello everyone and welcome to Khel Now’s LIVE COVERAGE of the NorthEast United vs Chennaiyin FC match in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22. The kick-off is just an hour away! I’m your host Waseem Zaidi, and I’ll be keeping you company through what promises a fascinating evening of football.
NorthEast United vs Chennaiyin FC: Building up
The Highlanders come into this game on the back of a goalless draw against Kerala Blasters last week. They find themselves in ninth on the table, with just one point to their name in two matches. NorthEast United looked disjointed in the attacking third against the Blasters and therefore couldn’t create many chances. Khalid Jamil will want his boys to get their maiden victory of the 2021-22 season against their favourite opponents.
The Marina Machans, on the other hand, had a dream start to their campaign as they got the better of Hyderabad FC in their opening match. The two-time champions were solid at the back and converted an important spot-kick to register all three points against the Nizams. Bozidar Bandovic will hope to build upon their season’s opening victory going forward.
The Highlanders will miss out the services of midfield duo Imran Khan and Emanuel Lalchhanchhuaha. Imran will start training from next week, but Emanuel is expected out for a longer period.
However, the good news is that Uruguayan maestro Federico Gallego is 100% fit for the next match and will be available for selection. For Chennaiyin, Rafael Crivellaro will be out of action for at least four weeks due to a muscle injury, the club has confirmed.
