The tactician spoke about his thoughts on the game, the turning point of the match and Federico Gallego’s injury.
Khalid Jamil’s NorthEast United ended up on the losing side in their third fixture of the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) 2021-22 season. The Highlanders lost 1-2 to Chennaiyin FC on Monday.
NorthEast started the game very well with Uruguayan maestro Federico Gallego pulling the strings and creating chances. Later, he got injured and had to be replaced and that led to the Highlanders losing their way. Chennaiyin went ahead with Lalianzuala Chhangte’s wonder strike and later VP Suhair equalized for his side. Eventually, Anirudh Thapa sealed the deal with his belter.

After the match, Khalid Jamil shared his thoughts with the media:
Thoughts on game
The Highlanders produced a bizarre performance, to say the least. They did not defend well and looked disjointed in attack. Sharing his thoughts on the game, Jamil said, “Performance was okay. We scored and equalized and dominated the game in patches.
"But, we need to improve and play as a team. We must believe in ourselves, not think anything negative and only think positive,” he opined.
What went wrong?
As mentioned earlier, NorthEast United started off very well and looked a completely different side with Gallego on the pitch. But, things changed after the Uruguayan left the pitch. Khalid Jamil felt it was not his side’s day and they lacked combination.

“It was not our day you can see because Gallego got injured in the first half and we missed (Deshorn) Brown. The remaining players worked hard, but combination was not there,” he said.
Update on Federico Gallego
Gallego’s injury has given NorthEast United a major setback. Speaking about him, Khalid said that he’ll speak to the medical team on Tuesday. “We have to see. Tomorrow we will speak to the physio and the doctor to see what is his condition. Let’s hope that he will come back soon,” Khalid signed off.
