The Highlanders registered their first win of ISL 2021-22 on Saturday night.
NorthEast United registered their first victory in the ongoing ISL 2021-22 season after beating FC Goa 2-1 at the Fatorda Stadium on Saturday. This was also the Highlanders' first win against the Gaurs after three seasons. Khalid Jamil's side took the lead through Rochharzela’s calm and composed finish before Goa restored parity, courtesy of Alexander Romario Jesuraj.
NorthEast United looked nervous at first but maintained a good shape overall, throughout the game. They had multiple attempts on goal. However, the special moment came from Khassa Camara, who scored a late winner to secure the three points for the Highlanders.
Camara’s 93rd-minute goal sealed the deal for Khalid Jamil’s NorthEast United, who registered their first victory of the campaign. Jamil reviewed his side's performance after the win and said he felt NorthEast United deserved to win the match.

Thoughts on the match
Jamil credited his players for the wonderful performance and fighting spirit to keep going and eventually sealing the victory. “We got the result because of the players, they worked very hard and they deserved the victory today,” he began.
Importance of Deshorn Brown
The Highlanders came out all guns blazing in the second half and clearly looked as the better side. They hit top gear when striker Deshorn Brown came off the bench. The Jamaican was nursing an injury and therefore missed the last game. He looked lively after coming on and it was him, who assisted Khassa Camara to score the winner.
Jamil spoke about how the inclusion of Deshorn Brown changed the game for them and admitted the team had missed his presence up front.
“Yes, definitely because we missed Deshorn Brown in the last match. He’s one of those players who can change the game anytime. He came in and other players also got the confidence. All the players played well and Charra scored a good goal and did a wonderful job,” Jamil opined.

“No doubt he’s one the quality players we have. I don’t have to say anything to him, his presence of mind is excellent. He must continue with the same rhythm until the last game,” Khalid Jamil asserted.
Thoughts on Subhasish Roy Chowdhury
NorthEast United’s skipper and custodian Subhasish Roy Chowdhury pulled off a number of amazing saves throughout the match. Sharing his thoughts on his goalkeeper and captain, Khalid Jamil said, “Subhasish is one of the experienced goalkeepers in India and is one of our main players. He did a wonderful job by guiding the defence and his temperament was also good.”
