SC East Bengal's defence has a lot of work to do, says Manolo Diaz

The Red and Gold are yet to win a game this season.
The season’s first win was almost in their clutches, but some poor mistakes cost SC East Bengal the game. Defensively, both the teams were abysmal but FC Goa had that quick thinking towards the end that got them the edge. Coach Manolo Diaz will have to go back to the drawing board and see where they went wrong. Here are his post-match thoughts:
What went wrong?
Diaz’s men had all the firepower while going forward, but faltered greatly at the back. There were individual moments that stood out, but collectively the defense has a lot of work to do. “We made a lot of big mistakes,” conceded the disheartened Spaniard.

On Amarjit’s position
The midfielder has been moved around a lot in the last few games. He was paired up with Antonio Perosevic upfront in tonight's game. Manolo Diaz was asked whether he was playing the Indian out of position. He responded, “Amarjit is a very good player. From the midfield, he can close in on the box of the opponent.”
Dropping Chima and Sidoel
The duo was not present in the starting XI against FC Goa. The coach revealed, “Darren is injured and we waited for the second half to bring on Chima.” Playing only four foreigners at a time was one of the main reasons behind the Nigerian not starting.

Lack of communication
After a brilliant defensive display against Chennaiyin FC, SC East Bengal’s frailties at the back resurfaced tonight. “We must keep training, improve our level and avoid making the big mistakes,” said Manolo Diaz.
On not playing Semboi
The 28-year old forward is the only Indian goalscorer for the Red and Gold this season. Despite this fact, he hasn’t been given much game-time. “Antonio and Chima are getting more minutes, but Semboi will definitely get chances in the future,” assured the SC East Bengal coach.
