Years of disappointments for some sides have reflected in their winning ratio.

As the ISL have turned seven, the Indian top flight have displayed tough competitions over the years. The fierce contest that the ISL offers, have led to memorable wins and disappointing losses. Moreover, the unpredictability of the league can also lead to surprising outcomes where a top team can lose to a struggling side.

Since the inauguration of ISL, many league heavyweights have suffered losses to struggling sides – which have helped the league to grow. Here is a ranking of all participating ISL teams in terms of number of losses of all time.

ATK Mohun Bagan – 5 losses

The Mariners had a strong first season in the ISL. The outfit is a new entity after erstwhile ISL side ATK and I-League club Mohun Bagan merged together. ATK Mohun Bagan finished second in the 2020/21 league standings while also finishing as the runners-up in the final. They registered four losses in 23 games in their maiden season in the ISL.

Odisha FC – 19 losses

After debuting along with Hyderabad FC, Odisha FC’s second campaign in the league proved to be equally, if not more disastrous than their debut season. The Juggernauts had a season to forget, where they finished bottom in the standings and racked up 12 losses in 20 games. Their overall defeats now stand at 19 in 38, one defeat in every two games.

Bengaluru FC – 23 losses

The Blues had a very disappointing season in the 2020-21 season, considering their track record in the ISL. The 2018/19 winners finished seventh and conceded eight defeats in 20 games. The Blues have now lost 23 games in 82 outings.

Delhi Dynamos – 31 losses

The now-defunct side from the national capital, Delhi Dynamos played five editions in the ISL before their owners decided to shift base to Bhubaneshwar in Odisha. The outfit did not make major statements when they were part of the league and shut shop without major achievements to their name. Their overall record stands at 31 losses in 82 games.

ATK – 32 losses

Another now-defunct side, ATK were one of the strongest ISL teams with a decent track record. The three-time ISL champions played over 107 games, losing only 32 times. The Kolkata-based outfit have now merged with former I-League team Mohun Bagan to form a new entity in ATK Mohun Bagan.

The Islanders lost only five games including the playoffs, taking their total tally to 42 losses in 123 games. Chennaiyin FC – 46 losses

Chennaiyin FC
Chennaiyin FC have registered 46 losses in 127 ISL games

The Marina Machans are one of the most decorated ISL teams, even if their current form would suggest otherwise. The southerners have registered 46 losses in 127 ISL games.

Kerala Blasters – 47 losses

The southerners hold the unfortunate record of suffering the most number of defeats in the history of the league. The Yellow Army have been part of the ISL since it’s inaugural season and are one of the most passionately supported teams in India. However, their fans have been constantly let down as the outfit has never won the league – despite making it to the final on two occasions. They have recorded 47 losses in 122 games, the most by any ISL club.
