The full-back has often played as a makeshift left-back.
Diogo Dalot, who has been playing for Manchester United since 2018, spoke about difficulties he faced during his time at the club and playing out of position during his maiden visit to India.
He reflected on that moment, he said, as a player, you should always be up for playing in different positions when the club faces any injury or the manager tests his formation.
After Diogo Dalot joined the club from FC Porto, he had to get used to the league’s intensity as he looked to become a regular starter at the club and establish himself as a key member of the team.
Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot had an interactive session with the media, and during that session, we got the chance to ask the player how he has transitioned himself playing on both the right and left side of defense.
The Portuguese star had to adjust to the left after injury to Luke Shaw under Erik ten Hag and now under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
While speaking during an Apollo Tyres event in India to launch United We Play 2025, the fifth season of its flagship grassroots football initiative. That was also attended by Harry Maguire and Andre Onana, he talked about his experience operating as a left-back.
As a full-back, you frequently play on the right and occasionally on the left. How do you adjust when you’re out of position?
”I’m used to it now, obviously on the right where I feel most comfortable, where I grew up playing more time. In your career, you should be able to adapt to various roles and adjust to the coach’s instructions as a player.”
”I think it’s good for the team and the manager, as he can have more options. As soon as I started playing on the left, I really worked on becoming comfortable in that area, and now it’s normal for me to play out of position.”, revealed Diogo Dalot while speaking to Khel Now.
