Bangladesh captain Jamal Bhuyan set to sign for Mohammedan Sporting
The 30-year-old was part of the Bangladesh team that played against India in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in 2019.
Mohammedan Sporting are all set to make a huge coup ahead of the I-League season and are ready to sign Bangladesh national team captain Jamal Bhuyan, Khel Now understands. The Danish-born Bangladeshi midfielder is among the best players to have come out of the country and will provide a big boost to the Black Panthers’ quest to win the title.
Jamal Bhuyan earned his reputation for spending his youth career with Danish giants FC Copenhagen, before playing for Danish second division club Hellerup IK. After spending a few years plying his trade in Europe, the midfielder returned to his home country and played for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmodi Club between 2014-16.
During this time, Jamal Bhuyan won a number of domestic titles including the Bangladesh Premier League. He had a short stint at Sheikh Russel KC before playing for Saif Sporting Club from 2017. But more than his club career, the 30-year-old has earned his reputation for his impressive work for the Bangladesh national team in the international stages.
He has made 44 appearances for Bangladesh national football team and took part in competitions like the South Asian games as well as the SAFF Championship. He helped Bangladesh win the Bronze medal in the South Asian games twice in 2016 & 2019 and also helped the Bangladesh U-23 side qualify for the 2018 Asian Games.
Jamal Bhuyan was also very impressive in the FIFA World Cup qualifier game against India in 2019, providing an assist and looking sharp with his work in the midfield. A stylish midfielder with the grit to fight against anyone, Bhuyan will bring a sweet spark to the Black Panthers’ midfield.
The 30-year-old’s passing range is deserves praise, while he’s also a big threat on the set-pieces. With his creativity and tendency to win battles in midfield, Mohammedan Sporting should be able to dominate possession and create more chances going forward. Their star centre-forward, Philip Adjah should specially love the arrival of Bhuyan – who has the ability to create a lot of chances through the middle.
After qualifying into the I-League for the first time in many years, Mohammedan have been building a formidable squad to help them win the title. Boosted by the arrival of new investors, they’ve also signed Nigerian forward Raphael Onwrebe as well as Nepali footballer Abhishek Rijal as their other foreign players.
With the Black Panthers already having a strong domestic core, the arrival of Bhuyan to add to their current foreign group should make them strong contenders to lift the title in Kolkata next year.
