Kerala Legends Vs Goa Legends set to take place on 29th September

The Legends Exhibition Match is a Fundraiser for the Rehabilitation of the young kids of the floods affected victims in Kerala.

An Exciting match is in the offing to be played between the Kerala Legends XI and Goa Legends XI to be held at the GFA Duler Stadium on the 29th September 2018 at 6.30pm being organized by the John Paul II Foundation for Sports Goa in association with Goa Football Association.

The Legends Exhibition Match is a Fundraiser for the Rehabilitation of the young kids of the floods affected victims in Kerala, especially in the Wayanad, Mallapuram and Idduki district.

The Kerala Legends XI team will be led by Arjuna Awardee I M Vijayan who is a household name in the football arena and the Goa Legends XI team is to be led by Arjuna Awardee Brahmanand Shankhwalkar and assisted by Arjuna Awardee Bruno Coutinho. There are more than 25 players in both teams included who have represented India in several tournaments and most of them have been players who have won the Santosh trophy either for Kerala or Goa and rightly so, the match is called the Legends Exhibition Match which is to be played under floodlights at the GFA stadium in Duler. Armando Colaco who has been a celebrity coach within the country and himself an International player will be the coach of the Goa Legends XI team and Mr.John Fernandes will be the Manager.

The Goa Legends XI includes Brahmanand Shankhwalkar, Nicholas Pereira, Bruno Coutinho, Savio Medeira, Derrick Pereira, Lector Mascarenhas, Mahesh Lotlikar, Mario Soares, Camilo Gonsalves, David D'Souza who have donned the Indian colors and have also won the Santosh trophy for Goa. The team also includes International Robert Fernandes, Climax Lawrence, Sameer Naik, Clifford Miranda, Micky Fernandes andNelson Landez who is a Junior International. The others who have represented Goa are Avertano Furtado, Marian Dias, Jerry Fernandes, Bharat Morje, Mathew Dcosta, Fausto Lobo, Vishant Pednekar, Pascoal Pereira, Frank Fernandes and Bosco Monteiro who have also played for the top clubs of Goa.

The Kerala Legends XI comprises of I M Vijayan, V P Shaji, P B Thobias, Vinu Jose, Feroz Sheriff, Martin Mathew, Anson, Pappachan Pradeep, M Suresh, M A Abdul Hakeem, U Sharaf Ali, K Ajayan Nair, K V Dhanesh, Habeeb Rehman have represented India in International competitions, whereas Abdul Noushad, V Sivakumar, M V Nelson, Ignatius Sylvester, Kurikesh Mathew who have captained the Santosh trophy Kerala teams. Asif Saheer well known as Kerala’s Maradona along with K P Sunny, P Shabeer Ali and Lanel Thomas have represented Kerala in the Santosh trophy. All of the players have either played for Kerala Police, SBT and some in Kolkata and Goa for the top clubs.

Both the teams have players who have played against each other in the past three decades either in the Santosh trophy at various levels including the Finals or have played together in the National squad with each other and hence this match is being looked forward by both the teams as a time of friendly fellowship and yet a clash of the Giants of Indian Football since the average age of players is between 40 – 42 Years.

The tickets for the match will be available at Angleys Sports (Panjim) and at the GFA stadium Duler from Wednesday onwards. The tickets are priced at Rs 200/- & Rs 100/- and since the match is for raising funds a House will be conducted with an exciting cash prize during the halftime of the match.

The proceeds of the match will go to the Kerala Sports Coalition which works with young boys in the age category of 8-15 years by training them in football skills and life skills coaching. The kids belong to the underprivileged and marginalized communities who cannot afford to play, however they are given a platform to showcase their talents and skills through the coaching programs. They will have opportunities to participate in tournaments and those involved in the coaching programs are Coaches who have represented India and especially Kerala in the Santosh trophy. The boy's will be provided playing kits, refreshments and transportation. They will be exposed to play in national championships for children from similar Communities.

The Foundation along with GFA is expecting support and appeals to all the Football loving people from Goa to be a part to witness the match. The organizers are hoping to see clubs, several parishes from North Goa and other Sports and Social organizations especially the Kerala Samaj members from all over the state of Goa to come together to help bring a smile on the faces of the presently traumatized children because of the situation arising from the recent floods in Kerala.

As a part of the match the foundation is also planning to collect sports kit and equipment from all those who have Used, Unused and New football playing material including Jerseys, shorts, stockings, shin guards, football shoes and track shoes. The Foundation expects Schools, Colleges, Clubs and Players who can make collections of the above equipment to be sent along with the Kerala team back to the respective districts as a part of the Rehabilitation program and hence appeals that those wanting to donate in kind through Sports equipment may contact Kennedy D’Silva director of the Foundation on 9850169370.
